Our Operations Managers play a crucial role helping deliver justice and are accountable for day\-to\-day operations. We are seeking an experienced leader able to motivate remote teams, foster strong relationships with key stakeholders and ensure our services are customer focused and efficient.

HM Courts \& Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. About your role

Staffordshire and Shropshire sit within HMCTS’ West Midlands region you’re responsible for the strategic oversight of Crown and Magistrates’ Courts, supporting your Deputy Head of Operations to meet operational needs and deliver regional performance objectives.

You will be at the forefront of organisational change, making a real difference in how service is delivered, working in a supportive environment with a focus on continuous improvement.

The post is responsible for the leadership of Crown Court and Magistrates Court operations for Staffordshire and Shropshire, reporting to the Deputy Head of Operations within Crime\-West Midlands you will effectively lead 4 Delivery Managers and teams across Crown and Magistrates jurisdictions to ensure performance is managed in your area to ensure service levels are maintained for service users and the public. Regular travel across all courts sites within Staffordshire and Shropshire will be required as well as regular contact with leadership Judiciary.

You’re a resilient and positive leader who thrives on delivering effective and efficient services and enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders. You lead by example, coaching and developing your team in setting local priorities and objectives to achieve National/Regional and Area strategies and plans.

You’re able to work collaboratively with other Operations Managers in the region to manage conflicting demands on the business and able to reprioritise local and regional goals w required.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior operations or management role, preferably within a complex, multi\-stakeholder environment.

  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of leading teams through change.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to maintain relationships at all levels.

  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part\-time, flexible and job\-sharing working patterns, w they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part\-time, flexible and job\-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy. The minimum number of hours acceptable for this role would be 32 hours per week over 5 days.

This post can be based at either Stoke Combined Court Centre, Bethesda Street, Hanley, Stoke\-on\-Trent, ST1 3BP, Stafford Combined Court Centre, Victoria Square, Stafford, ST16 2QQ or Shrewsbury Justice Centre, Preston Street, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY2 5NX. Regular travel will be required to Court sites in Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Working Arrangements \& Further Information

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements w business need allows. This is an informal, non\-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.

Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised role: all successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) – See Map. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity).

For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer.

All candidates who are currently in receipt of Mark Time / Pay Protection should ensure they are familiar with the new policy on permanent and temporary promotion which can be found on the employee intranet.

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.
