The Role Accu is a fast growing, e\-commerce business currently operating out of a single HQ and warehouse in Honley, Huddersfield. An operations team of 60 people dispatch over 1000 orders of precision engineering components per day, 12 hours per day and 7 days per week. The orders are delivered to over 100,000 customers including 70% of the world’s top manufacturing companies across 120 countries. They expect the very highest levels of delivery precision, quality and order accuracy. In order to continue the company’s rapid growth the Operations Director will oversee a phase of investment in a variety of automation technology to ensure we can dispatch many times more orders without increasing headcount.

This leadership role is crucial for optimising product flow into, through and out of Accu’s warehouse and fostering a high\-performing operations team. It requires a visionary leader who excels in people management, thrives on shaping smarter and safer ways of working, using data, software and automation. You will be involved in big\-picture decision\-making as well as day\-to\-day operations that shape the future of the organisation.

We’re looking for someone who can juggle a busy workload with confidence, communicate clearly, and handle sensitive information with discretion, all the while contributing in a hands\-on way to a team that’s ambitious, collaborative, and building something exciting.

Key Responsibilities \& Attributes

Operational Strategy \& Automation

  • Lead the strategy for operational logistics and warehousing to support aggressive business growth.

  • Identify, implement, and optimise the latest warehouse automation technology to drive efficiency and capacity planning.

  • Develop and present business cases for major capital expenditure on operational improvements.

  • Oversee all day\-to\-day operational functions (Quality, Logistics, Warehouse, Facilities Management, Health \& Safety), ensuring peak performance and alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Take ownership of all Health and Safety issues across site, chairing the Accu H\&S committee and delivering continual improvements.

  • Support and deliver elements of Accu’s ambitious 2030 net zero goal and broader environmental and sustainability ambitions.

  • Keep projects on track by monitoring deadlines, following up on actions, and supporting efficient workflows.
People Leadership \& Development
  • Provide strong people management and leadership to the entire Operations department, which currently includes 5 direct reports and 55 indirect reports, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the business to facilitate collaboration as the company grows.

  • Develop and mentor team members, ensuring continuous professional growth and succession planning.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams and external partners on operational matters.
Performance \& Growth
  • Work closely to and continue to improve established operational metrics (KPIs) to track efficiency, performance, and strategic goals.

  • Drive business improvement initiatives and special projects that enhance efficiency and effectiveness across the supply chain.

  • Prepare and present strategic reports and company updates to senior leadership, clearly communicating operational insights and priorities.

  • Conduct research and prepare materials to support informed business decisions.
Skills \& Attributes
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role managing warehouse operations and logistics.

  • Demonstrable expertise in the implementation and optimisation of warehouse automation technology.

  • Exceptional people management skills, with a track record of developing and leading high\-performing teams.

  • A business\-minded approach, with an interest in strategy, planning, and growth initiatives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience preparing polished, business\-focused materials for executive and board\-level audiences.

  • Strong organisational and time\-management skills, able to manage changing priorities.

  • Able to handle confidential information with professionalism.
Proactive, resourceful, and adaptable to the evolving needs of a fast\-growing business.
