OPERATIONAL GENERAL MANAGER

Reports to: Board of Directors
Position: Full\-time, 40 Hours; weekend work will be a part of this role
Salary: From £32000 per annum, depending on experience

The Role

Bulwell Forest Golf Club is looking for a hands\-on, commercially minded General Manager to take ownership of the complete day\-to\-day operation of the Club. This is an opportunity for the right person to make the role their own – to understand the business, identify what needs to change, build the right team around them and drive the Club forward.

Reporting directly to the Board, the General Manager will be accountable for the Club’s operational and commercial performance. The Board will set the strategic direction and agreed objectives; the General Manager will be trusted to manage the operation and deliver the results.

Core Responsibilities

· Lead the complete day\-to\-day operation of the Club and build an effective, accountable team.

· Take responsibility for financial performance, budgets, cash control, costs and management reporting.

· Lead all golf operations including members, visitors, societies, Opens, competitions and tee\-time utilisation.

· Drive membership recruitment, retention, engagement and growth.

· Oversee the course and greenkeeping function, working with the Head Greenkeeper on standards, resources, budgets and improvement plans.

· Take ownership of clubhouse, bar, catering, functions and events, including commercial performance and service standards.

· Lead sales, marketing and business development across membership, golf, hospitality, sponsorship and new revenue opportunities.

· Ensure high standards of customer and member experience.

· Ensure Health \& Safety, safeguarding, licensing, compliance, security, facilities and site management are properly controlled.

· Manage key suppliers, contractors and external relationships and deliver agreed Club projects.

Building the Team

A major part of the role will be determining what team and structure the Club needs to succeed. The General Manager will assess the existing operation, establish clear responsibilities, develop people, recruit where required, manage performance and create a positive culture where everyone works together as one Club.

The Person

We are looking for a natural leader who is commercially minded, hands\-on, financially aware, customer focused and comfortable making decisions. They should be prepared to challenge existing ways of working, turn ideas into action and take accountability for results.

Golf\-club experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Strong candidates from golf, hospitality, leisure, sport or other customer\-focused businesses will be considered.

Authority \& Accountability

THE BOARD GOVERNS. THE OPERATIONAL GENERAL MANAGER MANAGES.

Within Board\-approved budgets, policies and agreed objectives, the General Manager will have appropriate authority to manage staff, allocate resources, control day\-to\-day expenditure, manage suppliers and make operational decisions. They will be accountable to the Board against agreed targets and KPIs.

A financially sustainable Club with growing membership, increasing commercial income, an excellent golf course, strong visitor and society business, a welcoming clubhouse, an effective team, high service standards and a culture of continuous improvement.
