This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy Department at St Michael’s Hospital within Coventry \& Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust. Based on acute adult inpatient wards in Warwick, you will support individuals in psychiatric crisis within a 24/7 PICU setting, delivering high\-quality, recovery\-focused occupational therapy. The role involves enabling service users to engage in structured, goal\-oriented activities, contributing to care planning and risk discussions, and supervising the ward Activity Co\-Ordinator. Working within an experienced team, you will help deliver patient\-centred care while upholding professional standards.
As an Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for managing and supporting the delivery of therapeutic interventions that promote independence, routine, and functional ability. You will focus on enhancing patients’ engagement in meaningful activities and supporting their transition through different stages of care.You will also be responsible for maintaining high standards of practice, supporting less experienced staff where appropriate, and ensuring effective communication with patients and those involved in their care. Accurate record\-keeping and participation in clinical discussions will form a key part of your role.
Roles \& Responsibilities
- To support the development and evaluation of occupational therapy services by contributing to audits, outcome measures, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure high\-quality service delivery.
- To provide guidance and supervision to junior staff and students by offering support, sharing knowledge, and contributing to their ongoing professional development.
- To maintain a safe and structured therapeutic environment by supporting ward\-based initiatives and ensuring activities are meaningful and patient\-focused.
- To manage and respond effectively to complex or sensitive situations by applying professional judgement and following organisational procedures in both routine and crisis scenarios.
- To build and maintain effective working relationships with external organisations including voluntary and third\-sector services to enhance patient support.
- To ensure compliance with all Trust policies and procedures by following guidelines related to communication, documentation, and clinical governance.
· Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification.
- HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
- Previous experience within acute mental health and/or community settings.
- Experience of supervising staff or students (e.g., Fieldwork Educator).
- Ability to carry out specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment.
- Not suitable for newly qualified therapists.
- Full UK driving licence and access to own transport.
- Good with IT skills
