Role Summary
The OHA is responsible for supporting the Occupational Health service which is a specialist branch of medicine that focuses on the relationship between work, health and the working environment. The aim of the specialty is to support the prevention of work\-related illness and injury by providing proactive robust clinical advice and recommendations to the company.
The position reports to the Occupational Health Manager, which is a clinical role.
The OHA will provide a full remit of Occupational Health support to the company including overseeing health surveillance programme to ensure that all legal and mandatory compliance is adhered to and provide management with robust clinical advice and recommendations in relation to the employee’s health. Clinical records must be completed in line with medical confidentiality guidelines and Nursing \& Midwifery Council (NMC) expectations.
The OHA will be expected to manage their own diary and caseload and work autonomously as a specialist in the field of Occupational Health.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist advice and actionable recommendations to line managers and HR in relation to employees’ health concerns.
- Complete fitness for work Health Assessments for new starters
- Attend regular meetings with HR and Operational Managers, providing an overview of OH activities and updates on employee health issues including absence cases
- To assist the Occupational Health Manager to monitor, review and develop Occupational Health Policies and procedures to ensure they meet current legislation and Health \& Safety Executive (HSE) guidance on best practice and clinical standards recommendations
- Support the Occupational Health Manager and deputise as necessary
- Assist with the implementation and running of the health surveillance programme in line with HSE guidelines including COSHH; Control of Noise AT Work Regs (2005\), Control of Vibration at Work Regs (2005\) and ensure clinical standards are met
- Support management with the completion of individual risk assessments and workplace assessments where a health need has been identified as a concern
- Support the site in developing its Mental Health wellbeing strategy
- Proactively support the organisation in the delivery of wellbeing initiatives
- Support with facilitating environmental surveys and provide Occupational Health related advice to stakeholders
- Deliver presentations / training sessions to promote health and wellbeing
- Take part in departmental audits
- NMC Level One registration
- Relevant OH Diploma or Degree
- SCPHN \- Preferable
- To be able to form effective and proactive working relationships with Operations Management teams, HR, Health and Safety, Senior Leadership team, Employees.
- To support the Union in understanding the role and purpose of Occupational Health
