Nursery Support Worker & Assistant Cook
OVERVIEW
Support Worker \& Assistant Cooks at First Adventures are expected to be committed to supporting high quality care and be capable of doing so across all age groups and areas of the Nursery. Working as part of an area based team, they help to prepare food and snacks, ensure mealtimes are a calm and enjoyable experience for children and help to deliver care and support wherever it is needed. As you will be working with children you must have a childcare qualification to at least NC or SVQ level 2\.
ROLE DESCRIPTION: DELIVERY OF CARE
Support Workers are expected to:
- Understand and observe Nursery policies on , health and wellbeing and welfare at all times.
- Understand and follow Nursery policies on care, safety and conduct at all times, including where these apply to safe working and non\-child facing matters.
- Deliver care in line with the Nursery’s policies and the instructions of Senior Practitioners and Nursery Management where required and under the direction and supervision of other staff where necessary.
- Work across all areas of the Nursery where required.
Support Workers are expected to organise and manage the preparation of meals within the Nursery, ensuring that these are prepared in line with guidelines, HACCP procedures and Nursery policies.
Providing Cover (Planned and Unplanned) for the Nursery Cook
Support Workers shall be expected to provide planned and unplanned cover for the Nursery Cook on a rota basis with the other support staff, during periods of absence, for this reason, their job title shall include "Assistant Cook”.
- Training shall be provided and undertaken for this.
- Whilst providing cover, Support Workers shall be paid at a rate commensurate with that of the Cook, this shall be calculated on an hourly basis and paid as a bonus during the regular pay period.
- Nursery management shall determine which staff provide, this will normally be on a rotating basis.
Support Workers are expected to:
- Keep records in an organised and professional manner, in compliance with GDPR and Nursery policies.
- Ensure that HACCP procedures are followed and recorded.
- Ensure that all records pertaining to food preparation areas for which they are responsible are completed.
- Where required, communicate with parents in a professional and polite manner.
- Work in an organised and proactive manner: plan their own activities, workload and engage with opportunities to help others and add value.
Support Workers may be required to undertake a wide variety of other reasonable duties as required by the Nursery both on an ad\-hoc basis or following formal assignation based on their skills, experience or qualifications.
SUPPORT WORKER: QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING \& REGISTRATIONS
Support Workers are expected to hold an SVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in childcare and should be willing to undertake required training in food safety, first aid and other operational topics as directed.
Required:
- Food Safety Level 2 Qualification
- Willingness to engage in further training as required
- PVG Scheme Member
- Childcare or Early Years qualification at SVQ2 or equivalent
- Eligible for SSSC Registration
- Food service or other cognate experience in a care setting
HOLIDAYS: 5\.6 weeks / annum
SALARY: £9791\.60 (\+uplift when covering for Nursery Cook)
