About the Role

As a Natural Hazards Research Engineer, you’ll help us better understand climate risk and extreme events across the energy sector, supporting the UK’s journey towards An Electric Britain. You’ll apply advanced statistical modelling to hazards such as storms, heatwaves, sea level rise and space weather.

You’ll grow your expertise in applied research while working alongside leading scientists and industry specialists, contributing to impactful studies and helping shape future research at EDF.

This is a hybrid role, working from either our \#Gloucester office or \#London office, with a minimum of 2–3 days in the office each week. You’ll benefit from flexible working alongside collaboration with expert teams and partners.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering high\-quality research on natural hazard characterisation using advanced statistical modelling techniques

  • Analysing large, complex datasets to assess extreme events and climate impacts

  • Producing clear, insightful outputs and communicating findings to technical and non\-technical stakeholders

  • Collaborating with academic partners, public organisations and internal teams on research initiatives

  • Supporting new research proposals and supervising student research projects
Who You Are

We’re looking for a Natural Hazards Research Engineer with a strong scientific mindset and a curiosity to apply research beyond academia. Do you offer experience in…?

  • Ideally you will have recently completed a Masters or PhD in a relevant field such as climate science, statistics or applied mathematics with academic research

  • Applying statistical modelling techniques and working with large datasets to generate insights

  • Demonstrable industry or applied research experience alongside academic work, such as placements, internships or commercial projects

  • Using programming tools to analyse data and support evidence\-based decision making
