Job Description

Position: MSK Physiotherapist (Driving is needed)

Location: Maidstone, Rochester and Sittingbourne

Job Type: Full\-time

Salary: Upto £34,000

Overview of the Role: We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Physiotherapist to deliver high\-quality physiotherapy care within a prison healthcare setting. The role involves independently assessing, diagnosing, and treating prison residents with a wide range of musculoskeletal and physical health conditions, using evidence\-based and best\-practice approaches. You will place the patient at the centre of care, working autonomously while recognising the need to seek support from senior clinicians or the wider multidisciplinary team when appropriate. The role requires strong clinical reasoning, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within the unique environment of offender healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently assess prison residents and formulate accurate clinical diagnoses.


• Develop and deliver individualised, patient\-centred treatment and rehabilitation plans.


• Provide physiotherapy interventions both face\-to\-face and, where appropriate, virtually.


• Enable informed consent and encourage patient\-led treatment planning.


• Monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress in line with HCPC and organisational standards.


• Complete medical and medico\-legal reports accurately and in a timely manner when required.


• Work collaboratively with prison healthcare teams, GPs, mental health services, and other allied health professionals.


• Recognise complex biopsychosocial factors, including social, behavioural, cognitive, and cultural considerations, and adapt care accordingly.


• Refer patients to other healthcare professionals when cases are complex or outside the scope of practice.


• Promote health education, self\-management, and injury prevention within the prison population.


• Investigations \& Clinical Decision\-Making Request, interpret, and act on investigations (e.g. X\-rays, MRI scans, blood tests) within the scope of practice.


• Understand the limitations, sensitivity, and specificity of diagnostic investigations.


• Apply clinical findings in context and discuss complex cases with the wider MDT when required.


• Effectively prioritise workload, ensuring safe and efficient caseload management.


• Maintain accurate clinical records using systems such as SystmOne / EMIS / TM3 as applicable.


• Manage and maintain your own clinical diary, working with admin and line management support where required.


• Ensure adherence to prison policies, security procedures, and healthcare governance standards.


• Professional Development Participate in training, supervision, and CPD activities in line with HCPC requirements.


• Maintain up\-to\-date knowledge of offender health pathways, prison healthcare processes, and referral procedures.


• Uphold the physiotherapy code of conduct and promote the profession at all times.

• Driving is Mandatory for this role


• HCPC\-registered Physiotherapist


• MSK physiotherapy background, experience in hospital, community, or complex care settings


• Excellent clinical reasoning and decision\-making skills


• Strong communication and documentation skills


• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team


• Understanding of professional boundaries, safeguarding, and confidentiality
