Job Title: MMU late supervisor
Salary: The starting salary is £55,662, which includes allowances totalling £3,009\.
The salary is broken down as £52,653 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £57,417\. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non\-pensionable allowance of £1,000\.

The police vehicle fleet is an important physical asset. It enables officers and staff to do their job, carries key equipment required, and provides safe transportation for the public / prisoners.
The role of Fleet Services is to keep the Met mobile, ensuring we can detect, respond to, and prevent crime whilst building public trust and confidence. The complex needs of modern policing requires a wide range of vehicle types. We operate a fleet of over 5,200 assets on the road and river, as well as over 1,000 pedal cycles. London is the most complex and diverse city in the UK, and our fleet is reflective of that. We currently have over 220 different types of vehicles supporting all operational commands including armed response vehicles, HGVs, patrol cars, motorbikes and pedal cycles.
Customers can be broadly grouped into three strategic pillars – Frontline Policing, Met Ops \& Performance, and Counter Terrorism / Specialist Operations. Collectively this covers pan London requirements as well as national CT responsibilities.
The overall fleet requirements and volumes are owned and governed by operational leaders at the Strategic Fleet Board. Operational teams are accountable for the volume of fleet required to undertake their roles, and Fleet Services support and enable effective decision making through provision of information and technical / industry knowledge.
Key responsibilities
- Leading Team – Effectively repair a number of fleet vehicles by leading, managing and coaching vehicle servicing and repair teams. Ensure vehicles are maintained to the correct schedule and within the set time parameters. Ensure vehicles / vessels are maintained and repaired in accordance with MPS Technical Standards. Ensure vehicles / vessels leave the workshop safe for their intended duty. Provide technical guidance and support to team members across the workshop
- Performance management – Line management responsibility for a set number of technicians. Undertake performance management of all service areas to ensure processes are working effectively; identify, analyse and take action on issues and implement review points to improve performance when appropriate. Work with key suppliers and manufacturers to build and maintain effective relationships and manage KPI achievement against SLA’s. Identify failure demand and signs of process waste and implement new processes to support continuous improvement
- Individual training / development – ensure that individuals across the team have clear development plans in place and support individuals to identify, book, prepare for and attend training.
- Safe working \- Maintain safe working in their assigned workstream. Maintain effective and efficient delivery of services for their assigned workstream in compliance with regulatory and safety standards
- Technological solutions \- Deliver methodical technological solutions and seek opportunities to improve service performance keeping abreast of the latest advancements in vehicle repair and maintenance
- Technical Reports \- Produce detailed technical reports, instructions and notifications for vehicle repair and maintenance, along with detailed vehicle maintenance histories and warranty submissions

- Customer Engagement – Liaising with customers both in person and by e\-mail / telephone, giving maintenance progress reports, updating them on any issues, and providing excellent customer service at all time
- Suppliers / Contracts – Promote good working relationships between the MPS and all relevant external service providers, monitoring their performance and participating in regular contract management meetings (Marine and Trinity only)
- Workshop Support – Support the overall running of the MMU Team, with provision of information, undertaking surveys, ensuring standards are met etc.
This role does not attract Shift Disturbance Allowance. If you are currently in a shift\-working role, SDA should cease upon appointment to this job.

- Vehicle Maintenance and Repair techniques \- Knows vehicle repair techniques and industry best practice. Knows statutory regulations for vehicles and specialised equipment. Understands multiple vehicle manufacture warranty governance / agreements and repair process. Knows industry tooling, calibration requirements, their application and safe practice of use
- Health \& Safety \- Knows the HSE regulations associated to the vehicle repair industry, specifically to mechanical repair or servicing and roadside repair activity

- IT skills – good working knowledge of MS Office applications and competent in using these alongside MPS systems.
- Communication skills \- Able to communicate organisation strategy and team purpose and adapt style to suit the audience. Able to communicate effectively (verbal, written, digital), chair meetings and present to team and management. Use of active listening and provision of constructive feedback.
- Technical skills \- Ability to interpret and convey instructions to technical staff on a wide range of maintenance repair procedures or specifications related industry/manufacturer standards or specialist Police equipment to ensure the safe, reliable and effective maintenance
- Vehicle Recovery/Roadside Repair\- Understanding of both IVR standards and industry best practice with regards to roadside attendance and recovery, ensuring staff are supported with advice where required
- Certifications / Apprenticeship \- Level 3 ND/HND, NVQ/VCQ or above in vehicle maintenance and Repair. Completion of a recognised apprenticeship in the vehicle servicing and repair industry
- Leading Teams \- Successfully developed and led a team to deliver business objectives
- Service Delivery \- Managed a service delivery experience in an industrial automotive environment
