Medical Secretary
This post forms part of a service currently subject to a service improvement and redesign programme. Service delivery models, roles and structures will be reviewed as part of the improvement process, which may result in changes and a consultation process in line with the Trust’s Organisational Change Policy.

Applications are invited for a Medical Secretary to provide support to the Perinatal Service, base at Daisyfield Mill in Blackburn, this role will include providing remote cover for the Doctors. The Secretary will be expected to utilise a range of technical skills, which may include word processing, use of email and other IT skills, audio tape transcription, and medical /pharmacological terminology.
They will also be expected to employ highly effective interpersonal and communication skills and will be required to work frequently without direct supervision. The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded and the particular sensitivities to mental health issues respected.
The post holder will be required to work flexibly in response of the needs of the Network and cover for absent colleagues when and where necessary for short periods of time such as annual leave and short\-term sickness across various sites and travel may be necessary.
The medical secretary is a key member of the Mental Health Network, Perinatal Service. The post holder will assist in the provision of effective and efficient services by providing a comprehensive professional secretarial and administrative service to a team of consultants, junior doctors, trainee doctors and students, liaising effectively wherever necessary with other team members and external agencies.
The medical secretary will also be expected to provide support to the MDT’s which take place each week and provide cover for annual leave and sickness for colleagues.
