The Opportunity
Our next Mechanical Lead will take ownership of all mechanical construction activities on our mission critical projects (data centre or pharmaceutical upgrades) from installation through to commissioning and handover. Working closely with senior management of the project, the Mechanical Lead will ensure mechanical systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements.
The successful candidate will lead mechanical subcontractors, manage installation sequencing, coordinate technical issues, oversee QA/QC processes, and drive programme delivery across all mechanical packages including HVAC systems, chilled water systems, pipework, ventilation, and associated building services.
Must Have
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or completed a recognised apprenticeship
- Minimum 10 years' experience in mechanical construction, building services, or MEP project delivery
- Proven experience required managing mechanical packages on large\-scale construction projects
- Extensive experience overseeing HVAC, piping, chilled water, and associated mechanical systems
- Proven ability to lead subcontractors and multidisciplinary construction teams
- Exposure to data centre or large pharma plant upgrades
- Great communication skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple work fronts simultaneously are essential for success in this role.
- British Citizen or existing work authorisation.
- Commissioning management experience
- Solid understanding of construction sequencing and programme management
- Additional mechanical or project management certifications
- Lead all mechanical construction activities throughout the project lifecycle
- Manage mechanical subcontractor performance, manpower planning, and resource allocation
- Coordinate mechanical installation works in line with programme milestones
- Ensure mechanical works are completed safely and in compliance with company procedures
- Drive health and safety standards across all mechanical activities on site
- Review technical submissions, drawings, specifications, and construction information
- Coordinate with consultants, design teams, and project stakeholders
- Implement and maintain QA/QC procedures across mechanical packages
- Monitor progress and prepare reports for senior management
- Identify and resolve technical, design, and coordination issues
- Oversee mechanical commissioning activities and project handover requirements
- Manage snagging activities and ensure timely close\-out of mechanical systems
- Ensure all subcontractor documentation and safety records are maintained and updated
