Location: RAF Shawbury
Salary: £32,500,000 – £35,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: 40 hours per week

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical / HVAC Engineer to join our expanding team supporting Ministry of Defence (MOD) \& RAF sites across the region.

This is a great opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer who enjoys getting to the bottom of faults, finding the root cause of problems and carrying out repairs rather than simply changing parts.

You will work across a varied range of mechanical building services, including HVAC systems, Air Handling Units (AHUs), heating systems, pumps, valves, pressurisation equipment and general mechanical plant.

We are looking for someone who has strong practical experience, good fault\-finding skills and takes pride in getting the job done properly.

Job Overview

You will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, servicing, repairs, fault finding and small installation works across a range of mechanical building services.

A key part of the role will be investigating faults, diagnosing problems and identifying the root cause, helping to prevent repeat failures and keeping critical equipment operating safely and efficiently.

You will work as part of a dedicated site team while also working with the wider engineering team when more complex faults or issues arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on mechanical and HVAC systems.


• Respond to reactive maintenance, breakdowns and mechanical faults.


• Diagnose faults and investigate problems to identify the root cause, not just the immediate fault.


• Service and maintain Air Handling Units (AHUs) including filters, belts, fans, motors and associated mechanical components.


• Carry out maintenance and repairs on HVAC mechanical equipment.


• Maintain and repair heating systems, pumps, valves, expansion vessels and pressurisation units.


• Carry out repairs and remedial works on mechanical plant and plumbing systems.


• Undertake mechanical pipework repairs, alterations and installations.


• Carry out inspections and identify potential problems before they become failures.


• Support small mechanical improvement projects and system upgrades.


• Complete maintenance records and provide clear information on faults and works carried out.


• Work closely with the wider site team and other trades to diagnose and resolve issues.


• Maintain high standards of health, safety, workmanship and compliance at all times.

Requirements \& Qualifications

We are looking for a mechanically biased engineer with experience within commercial, industrial or facilities management environments.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Proven experience within mechanical building services, HVAC or commercial maintenance.


• Strong mechanical fault\-finding and diagnostic skills.


• Experience working on AHUs and HVAC equipment.


• A good understanding of mechanical plant and building services.


• The ability to investigate faults and find the root cause of problems.


• Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.


• Ability to repair, maintain and install mechanical equipment and pipework.


• Good understanding of pumps, valves, heating systems and plant room equipment.


• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and technical documentation.


• Good understanding of Health \& Safety and safe systems of work.


• A professional approach with good communication skills.


• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable (not essential)

• Gas qualifications or commercial gas experience.


• HVAC qualifications or experience.


• Experience working with larger AHUs or mechanical ventilation systems.


• Experience working within MOD, healthcare or other secure environments.


• Electrical knowledge to assist with mechanical fault finding and diagnosis.
