We design, manufacture, install and support high\-quality blending, handling and containment systems for customers across the UK and internationally.
Our equipment is used in demanding and highly regulated manufacturing environments where reliability, safety, cleanability, quality and attention to detail are critical.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team and support the design and development of our machinery and process equipment.
The Role
This is a mechanically focused design engineering role involving the development of bespoke machinery, assemblies and components used within pharmaceutical and powder processing applications.
You will use 3D CAD software to develop new equipment, modify existing designs and produce detailed manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
Working closely with our engineering, manufacturing, project and commercial teams, you will take projects from initial customer requirements and concepts through to detailed design, manufacture, assembly and installation.
Projects can range from modifications to existing machinery through to the development of complete blending systems, process vessels, frames, guarding, product handling equipment and bespoke mechanical assemblies.
The role would suit a practical, mechanically minded Design Engineer who understands how machinery is manufactured and assembled and is comfortable taking ownership of engineering projects from concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical machinery, equipment and components using 3D CAD software.
- Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
- Develop new machinery and improve existing Terriva equipment and product designs.
- Design components including fabricated structures, stainless steel assemblies, vessels, frames, guarding, mechanical handling systems and bespoke machine components.
- Translate customer requirements and User Requirement Specifications (URS) into practical mechanical designs.
- Produce accurate engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes and manufacturing information.
- Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated engineering documentation.
- Work closely with suppliers, fabricators and internal manufacturing teams to ensure components can be manufactured efficiently and accurately.
- Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles to equipment designs.
- Review designs to ensure machinery is safe, reliable, maintainable and suitable for the intended operating environment.
- Support mechanical calculations, component selection and engineering verification where required.
- Select appropriate mechanical components, materials, motors, gearboxes, bearings, actuators and other machine elements.
- Support project costing by identifying materials, components and manufacturing requirements.
- Provide engineering support during machine manufacture, assembly and testing.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), installation and commissioning activities where required.
- Investigate and resolve mechanical design or manufacturing issues.
- Manage engineering changes and ensure drawings and documentation remain accurate and controlled.
- Work collaboratively with controls, production, service, sales and project teams.
- Support the standardisation and continuous improvement of Terriva's machinery and engineering processes.
- Ensure designs consider safety, cleanability, accessibility, reliability and long\-term serviceability.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong experience working within a mechanical design engineering role.
- Strong experience using 3D CAD software for machinery or equipment design.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
- Experience designing mechanical machinery, assemblies or production equipment.
- A good understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience designing fabricated and machined components.
- Good knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
- Experience working with stainless steel fabrication would be advantageous.
- Understanding of tolerances, fits and engineering drawing standards.
- Experience producing and managing Bills of Materials.
- Ability to take a design from initial concept through to manufacture and assembly.
- Experience working with suppliers, fabricators and manufacturing teams.
- Strong practical understanding of how machinery is manufactured, assembled and maintained.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and technical requirements.
- Strong problem\-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities.
Knowledge or experience of ATEX, machinery safety, CE/UKCA requirements or equipment designed for hygienic/clean manufacturing environments would also be beneficial.
