Materials Science & Engineering Staff Scientist
The Materials Science \& Engineering Center at the Department of Biological \& Chemical Engineering is looking for a scientist/engineer to oversee the synthetic and analytical laboratories of the unit.
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a full\-time, permanent position with a starting date of 01\-08\-2026\.
Job description
- You will be in charge of managing the synthetic and analytical laboratories at the unit and ensure a safe and smooth operation.
- You will communicate and coordinate with the other lab managers and administrative staff at the Department.
- You will ensure and enforce laboratory safety and occupational health.
- You will ensure that instruments are maintained.
- You will help with procurement of new instrumentation and purchase of consumables.
- You will help with the preparation of standard operating procedures and train new staff and students.
- You operate advanced analytical instrumentation, run experiments, collect, analyse and interpret data.
- You will help with method development and quality protocols.
- You will help with developing and improving materials synthesis.
- You will help with administrative tasks such as accounting and billing in collaboration with the administrative unit.
- You will participate in teaching materials science and engineering and actively engage with students.
Your profile
- You have a background in materials science and engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics or nanoscience.
- You have a master’s or PhD degree in one of the fields.
- You have experience in materials synthesis.
- You have experience in operating analytical instrumentation including, but not restricted to X\-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, NMR, optical spectroscopy, rheology and thermoanalysis as well as data analysis and interpretation.
- You are proactive, structured, hardworking, and solution\-oriented
- You have a strong ability to collaborate in a dynamic working environment and interact with many different cultures and professional groups.
- You are proficient in spoken and written Danish and English.
The Materials Science \& Engineering Center is part of the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering at Aarhus University, which is a vibrant, collaborative, and international research community.
The newly established center comprises state\-of\-the art facilities for materials synthesis and processing together with laboratories hosting a large variety of instruments for materials characterization.
