The Materials Science \& Engineering Center at the Department of Biological \& Chemical Engineering is looking for a scientist/engineer to oversee the synthetic and analytical laboratories of the unit.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a full\-time, permanent position with a starting date of 01\-08\-2026\.

Job description

  • You will be in charge of managing the synthetic and analytical laboratories at the unit and ensure a safe and smooth operation.

  • You will communicate and coordinate with the other lab managers and administrative staff at the Department.

  • You will ensure and enforce laboratory safety and occupational health.

  • You will ensure that instruments are maintained.

  • You will help with procurement of new instrumentation and purchase of consumables.

  • You will help with the preparation of standard operating procedures and train new staff and students.

  • You operate advanced analytical instrumentation, run experiments, collect, analyse and interpret data.

  • You will help with method development and quality protocols.

  • You will help with developing and improving materials synthesis.

  • You will help with administrative tasks such as accounting and billing in collaboration with the administrative unit.

  • You will participate in teaching materials science and engineering and actively engage with students.

You will be involved in scientific communication and outreach activities.

Your profile

  • You have a background in materials science and engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics or nanoscience.

  • You have a master’s or PhD degree in one of the fields.

  • You have experience in materials synthesis.

  • You have experience in operating analytical instrumentation including, but not restricted to X\-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, NMR, optical spectroscopy, rheology and thermoanalysis as well as data analysis and interpretation.

  • You are proactive, structured, hardworking, and solution\-oriented

  • You have a strong ability to collaborate in a dynamic working environment and interact with many different cultures and professional groups.

  • You are proficient in spoken and written Danish and English.

The Materials Science \& Engineering Center is part of the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering at Aarhus University, which is a vibrant, collaborative, and international research community.

The newly established center comprises state\-of\-the art facilities for materials synthesis and processing together with laboratories hosting a large variety of instruments for materials characterization.
