Marketing Manager
Company: SD Games
Job Type: Full\-time, Permanent
Location: On\-site – NG1 7AR, Nottingham
Working Arrangement: 100% office\-based – this is not a remote or work\-from\-home position
SD Games is an independent game development studio currently working on our own original RPG/RTS video game project for the PC market.
As we move further into development and towards wider public exposure, we are looking for a Marketing Manager to take ownership of the game's marketing tactics, community growth, content, promotion and launch preparation.
This is not a traditional marketing position where you work separately from the product team. You will work directly alongside the developers and will be expected to become familiar with the game, its development process, and the tools used to build and publish it.
The Role
We are looking for someone who can execute innovative marketing tactics for our game, helping us build awareness, grow our community and ultimately drive wishlists and sales.
You will have significant freedom to develop the marketing direction of the project and will work closely with the development team to identify features, updates, gameplay moments, and development progress that can be turned into effective marketing content.
The role will cover areas including social media, community management, content creation, influencer outreach, press, Steam marketing, and launch planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the overall marketing tactics for our game.
- Grow the game's audience and community across platforms such as Steam, Discord, YouTube, TikTok, X/Twitter, Reddit and other relevant channels.
- Plan and manage marketing campaigns around announcements, trailers, demos, updates and release milestones.
- Increase Steam wishlists and monitor the effectiveness of campaigns.
- Create and coordinate screenshots, gameplay clips, short\-form videos, trailers and other promotional material.
- Work directly with the development team to identify interesting features and development progress worth promoting.
- Manage community communication and player engagement.
- Build relationships with YouTubers, Twitch streamers, influencers and other content creators.
- Contact gaming press, journalists and relevant media outlets.
- Organise review keys, preview builds and influencer access.
- Research competitors and wider trends within the PC and video game market.
- Monitor marketing performance, engagement, conversion and campaign results.
- Help maintain the game's Steam store presence and promotional material.
- Support the planning and marketing of demos, Steam festivals and other industry events.
- Gather community feedback and communicate useful findings back to the development team.
- Help develop the overall brand and public identity of SD Games and our projects.
You do not need to be a programmer or game developer, but you must be willing to learn how our development tools and pipeline work.
We do not want our marketing team completely separated from development.
You may be required to learn the basics of tools and systems such as:
- Unity
- Steamworks
- Our internal development builds and tools
- Game capture and recording tools
- Source/project management systems
- Analytics tools
- Development and bug\-tracking software
A willingness to learn these tools is an important requirement for this position.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in marketing, digital marketing, social media, PR, community management or a related field.
- Has a strong interest in video games and the gaming industry.
- Understands how games are marketed to PC/Steam audiences, or is willing to learn quickly.
- Is comfortable creating and testing new marketing ideas rather than relying entirely on traditional marketing methods.
- Has strong written communication skills.
- Understands social media and short\-form content.
- Is confident contacting influencers, journalists and potential partners.
- Can work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Is analytical and able to assess whether marketing activity is producing meaningful results.
- Is willing to learn new software and technical tools.
- Has a genuine interest in understanding the game they are marketing rather than simply promoting it from supplied marketing materials.
Experience in any of the following would be particularly useful:
- Video game marketing.
- Steam wishlist campaigns.
- Influencer marketing.
- Gaming PR.
- Discord community management.
- TikTok, YouTube Shorts or other short\-form video platforms.
- Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or similar software.
- Photoshop or other image\-editing software.
- Unity or another game engine.
- Games industry events or Steam festivals.
- Paid advertising campaigns.
- Marketing analytics.
Important – This Is an On\-Site Position
This position is not work from home or remote.
The successful candidate will be expected to work from our office and alongside the development team.
Because the role involves regularly interacting with developers, accessing development builds, capturing content and becoming involved in the development process, we believe being physically present with the team is an important part of this position.
Please only apply if you are able and willing to work on\-site on a full\-time basis.
How to Apply
Please apply with your CV together with a short introduction explaining:
- Your relevant marketing experience.
- Your interest in video games.
