We have an exciting opportunity to join Do Talk Write, an alternative provision that supports young people through tailored and flexible educational approaches. We are looking for someone who can think beyond traditional classroom methods to help learners overcome social, emotional and behavioural barriers and achieve success.

The role is term\-time only plus 10 non\-term days per academic year.

The Hub Support Assistant/Cover Supervisor will provide day\-to\-day support across the provision, helping to maintain a safe, calm, structured and positive environment for students aged 11–16\. DTW operates across two hubs, based in Tollerton and Annesley, as well as a range of community\-based locations across Nottingham. The postholder must therefore be flexible and willing to work across different locations according to the needs of the provision. The postholder will work as part of the Hub teams, supporting students with routines, behaviour and engagement throughout the day. Where a tutor is unavailable, the postholder will also provide supervision of planned learning sessions, ensuring students are safe, settled and supported to engage with the work provided. This may require travelling to either hub or to community\-based sessions. This is a practical and varied role that requires someone who is approachable, reliable and able to build positive relationships with young people while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.

The closing date is Sunday 4th October 2026 at midnight. To apply, please email Rebecca Bergin (HR Manager) at rbergin@dotalkwrite.co.uk for an application form and job description.

The main tasks and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide day\-to\-day practical support within the hubs and community\-based provision, helping to maintain a safe, calm and positive environment.

  • Build positive and professional relationships with students aged 11–16 and act as a positive role model.

  • Support students with routines, attendance, engagement and appropriate behaviour throughout the day.

  • Reinforce the organisation's expectations and behaviour standards, responding calmly and consistently to low\-level disruption.

  • Recognise when students may be becoming frustrated, anxious or dysregulated and provide appropriate support, seeking assistance from more experienced colleagues when required.

  • Support tutors, engagement support mentors and hub managers with the smooth running of sessions and the wider provision.

  • Provide cover for planned learning sessions when a tutor is unavailable, following work and instructions provided by the teaching team.

  • Supervise students safely during lessons, breaks and other activities, including community\-based sessions.

  • Follow individual student support plans, behaviour strategies and risk assessments as appropriate.

  • Communicate relevant information regarding student behaviour, engagement or welfare to the appropriate member of staff.

  • Support safeguarding procedures and report any concerns promptly and appropriately.

  • Assist with the preparation of resources, activities and learning environments and contribute to the effective day\-to\-day running of the provision.

  • Travel between the Tollerton and Annesley hubs and community locations throughout Nottingham as required.
Essential criteria:
  • Experience of working with children or young people.

  • Ability to build positive and appropriate relationships with young people.

  • Ability to follow instructions, policies and established procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Reliable, flexible and willing to support colleagues.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in supporting young people.
DTW is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974\.
