Manufacturing Maintenance Engineer

Responsibilities

Production Equipment Maintenance

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities on automated production and packaging equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.

  • Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving machine reliability, efficiency, and safety.

  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of production machinery and equipment.

  • Populate and maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS or maintenance management systems.

  • Management of engineering\-related inventory, control of stock levels and database population.
Electrical Responsibilities
  • Fault finding PLC\-controlled equipment and automated production systems using conventional methods, systematically tracing faults through the control system by checking power supplies, inputs, PLC logic, I/O's, safety circuits, electrical testing equipment, and schematics.

  • Work with variable speed drives, sensors, motors, control panels, relays, contactors, and industrial automation systems.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.

  • Carry out electrical testing, inspection, and repair work safely and effectively.
Mechanical Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and repair of injection moulding equipment, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, pneumatics, hydraulics, and material handling equipment.

  • Mechanical strip\-down, overhaul, reassembly, and alignment of machinery.

  • Conduct precision maintenance activities to improve asset reliability.

  • Design and fabrication of equipment guarding, parts, covers, etc.
Facilities Maintenance
  • Support maintenance and repair of site facilities and infrastructure.

  • Ensure the efficient operation of:

+ Building services
+ HVAC systems
+ Compressors
+ Water systems
+ Lighting and power distribution
+ Fire alarm and emergency systems
+ General building fabric
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors where required.

  • Ensure statutory compliance checks and maintenance activities are completed.
Health, Safety \& Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture across the site.

  • Follow lockout/tagout/testout (LOTOTO) and permit\-to\-work procedures.

  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with health, safety, environmental, and IATF regulatory manufacturing standards.

  • Support internal and external audits.
General Responsibilities \& Duties

  • Assist other areas of the business when required to carry out the same or similar tasks.

Required Education, Skills, Training and Experience

Skills

  • Strong background in both electrical and mechanical maintenance.

  • Experience fault finding on automated machinery and PLC\-controlled systems.

  • Extensive experience working on highly automated production and materials handling lines.

  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives driving Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

  • Excellent communication and computer literacy skills.
Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Multi\-Skilled Maintenance Engineer within an FMCG manufacturing environment.

  • Extensive experience working on highly automated production and materials handling lines.

  • Strong background in both electrical and mechanical maintenance.

  • Experience fault finding on automated machinery and PLC\-controlled systems.

  • Previous responsibility for facilities maintenance, site services and compliance.

  • Demonstrable experience reducing downtime and improving equipment reliability.

  • Experience working within a fast\-paced manufacturing operation.
Desirable:
  • Experience working in highly regulated manufacturing environments such as automotive, pharmaceutical, medical device, aerospace, food, or other compliance\-driven industries.

  • Proven track record of working within a high\-quality manufacturing culture.

  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives driving Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

  • Experience contributing to audit readiness and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal standards.
Qualifications
  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.

  • Level 3 qualification (or above) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Multi\-Skilled Engineering.

  • HNC/HND in Engineering.
