Location: London - 3 days per week in the office
Contract: Permanent, Full Time

An established and purpose-driven charity is looking to appoint a Management Accountant to join its finance team in London.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a broad and hands-on role with responsibility for the monthly reporting cycle, balance sheet control, financial analysis and statutory reporting. You will also line manage a Finance Officer and act as a key point of contact for junior finance colleagues and non-finance stakeholders.

This is an excellent opportunity for a part/qualified accountant who enjoys taking ownership of their work and wants a varied role within a collaborative finance function.

Key Responsibilities • Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting processes, ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and payroll journals.

  • Manage deferred and accrued income entries in Sage Intacct.

  • Maintain the fixed asset register and oversee depreciation and related journals.

  • Take ownership of balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items.

  • Review bank, credit card and debtor reconciliations.

  • Prepare management accounts narratives and variance analysis for the Head of Finance.

  • Review payment runs and deputise for the Head of Finance as an approver when required.

  • Support accounts receivable activity, including credit notes, adjustments, write-offs and queries.

  • Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements under Charities SORP (FRS 102).

  • Support the annual audit, including preparation of working papers and responding to auditor queries.

  • Prepare and submit ONS and other statutory returns.

  • Assist with budgets, forecasts and cash flow forecasting.

  • Business partner with teams across the organisation, providing financial guidance and support.

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and performance.

  • Provide Sage Intacct training and support to non-finance users.

  • Line manage and develop the Finance Officer, providing guidance, objective setting and performance management.

  • Act as the first point of contact for junior members of the finance team on technical and operational queries.

About You You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience operating at Management Accountant level. Ideally, you will have worked within a charity or not-for-profit environment and have a good understanding of fund accounting and Charities SORP.

You should also have:

  • Strong month-end and management accounts experience.

  • Proven ownership of the full balance sheet reconciliation process.

  • Experience using Sage Intacct.

  • Strong Excel and wider IT skills.

  • Knowledge of Charities SORP (FRS 102) and fund accounting.

  • Experience preparing statutory or ONS returns.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

  • A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.

  • Experience providing systems training to non-finance users.

What's on Offer • £40,000-£43,000 salary
  • 30 days' annual leave + 8 bank holidays

  • Life insurance

  • Cycle to Work scheme

  • Eye Care Vouchers

  • Free gym membership

  • Regular social and wellbeing activities

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing initiatives, including monthly talks and a Wellbeing Hour

  • Hybrid working with 3 days per week in the London office

If you're a qualified accountant or finalist looking for a broad Management Accountant position where you can take genuine ownership, work closely with the Head of Finance and make a meaningful contribution across the wider organisation, this could be a great next step.
