Job Overview
The Maintenance Technician supports the day\-to\-day upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of buildings, labs, equipment, and facilities. This role ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment by assisting with routine inspections, minor repairs, and preventative and reactive maintenance tasks, whilst adherence to Health \& Safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine maintenance and repairs of buildings, equipment, and systems. (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, fire and intruder alarm maintenance).
- Diagnose faults using schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams accurately.
- Perform regular inspections to identify and report maintenance issues or hazards.
- Carry out basic repairs such as fixing leaks, replacing office lighting, painting, and assembling furniture.
- Support preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and extend asset life.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of maintenance areas, tools, and equipment.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
- Co\-ordinate external contractors when required.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance work completed.
- Ensure health and safety procedures and regulations are always adhered to within the building.
- Updating of building fixed wiring diagrams \& Test certificates.
- Inputting into the design stages of a project and identifying future operational \& maintenance issues.
- Knowledge of general maintenance and repair work.
- Practical skills in areas such as plumbing, electrical, or carpentry are desirable.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
- IOSH Managing Safely is desirable.
- Good problem\-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong time management and ability to prioritise tasks.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities role is essential.
- Previous experience in the maintenance of a lab setting is desirable.
- Basic understanding of health and safety practices.
- Must be competent in writing and understanding the Risk Assessment Process.
- Must be competent in the writing and adhering to procedures.
- Must be competent in completing and adhering to Permit to Work System.
- Must be confident working at height and adhering to all Health \& Safety protocols relating to.
- Forklift Truck Licence is desirable.
- Driving Licence is essential.
- Additional HSE training or certification would be a plus.
- Must have experience in working on Microsoft Word, Teams, Outlook and have the ability to work on Excel for basic tasks.
- Experience on SharePoint is desirable.
- May involve periods of physical work and working with your hands.
- Mon – Fri \- 37\.5 Hrs per week, with a possibility of weekend work if required.

Pay: £27,000\.00\-£34,000\.00 per year
