Maintenance engineer for aluminium, upvc, roller shutter, glass CNC machinery
Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Engineer to support the reliability, performance and efficiency of our manufacturing facility.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of a wide range of CNC, automated and production machinery used in the manufacture of aluminium, uPVC, glass and roller shutter products.
The machinery across the facility includes CNC machining centres, saws, cutting and processing equipment, glass machinery, conveyors, roller shutter production equipment, motors, drives, pneumatic systems, sensors, electrical controls and PLC\-controlled machinery.
This role will be critical in reducing production downtime, identifying recurring faults, improving machine reliability and ensuring all manufacturing equipment operates safely and efficiently.
We are looking for a hands\-on engineer with strong electrical, mechanical and automation knowledge, who is confident fault\-finding on complex industrial machinery within a fast\-paced manufacturing environment.
Duties
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across CNC, automated and general manufacturing machinery.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and automation faults across aluminium, uPVC, glass and roller shutter production equipment.
- Maintain CNC machining centres, saws, cutting machines, routing equipment, conveyors, glass\-processing machinery and roller shutter manufacturing equipment.
- Use PLC systems, control panels and machine interfaces to diagnose faults, monitor inputs and outputs and identify control\-system issues.
- Respond quickly to machine breakdowns to minimise disruption to production.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, PLC documentation, mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
- Maintain and repair motors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, rollers, pneumatic components and drive systems.
- Diagnose faults within variable\-frequency drives, servo systems, sensors, relays, contactors and industrial control panels.
- Carry out electrical testing and replace faulty electrical components where required.
- Undertake mechanical repairs, fabrication, welding and equipment modifications where necessary.
- Carry out maintenance and fault\-finding on compressed air and pneumatic systems.
- Assist with new machinery installations, commissioning, upgrades, relocations and modifications.
- Work closely with production operators and managers to identify machinery issues and improve equipment performance.
- Liaise with machine manufacturers, technical support teams and external engineers where specialist assistance or replacement components are required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service schedules and breakdown reports.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend engineering improvements to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Monitor critical spare parts and assist with sourcing replacement components.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with site health and safety procedures and machinery manufacturer requirements.
- Support preventative maintenance planning across all production departments.
- Proven maintenance engineering experience within an industrial, engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience maintaining CNC machinery, automated production machinery or industrial manufacturing equipment.
- Strong electrical fault\-finding experience.
- Good understanding of PLC\-controlled machinery and industrial automation systems.
- Experience diagnosing faults using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and machine documentation.
- Strong mechanical maintenance knowledge, including motors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, rollers, chains and drive systems.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems, solenoid valves, cylinders and industrial sensors.
- Experience with variable\-frequency drives, servo motors, motor controls and industrial electrical panels.
- Ability to fault\-find CNC machinery and automated processing equipment.
- Welding and fabrication skills would be advantageous.
- Ability to diagnose complex faults methodically and work effectively under pressure during production breakdowns.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance and developing maintenance schedules.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of machinery reliability.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with production teams, management, machine manufacturers and external contractors.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
