Maintenance Assistant

One YMCA is seeking a proactive and reliable Maintenance Assistant to join our growing Place \& Environment Team. This role is ideal for someone with a practical, hands\-on approach who enjoys a varied workload and takes pride in delivering high\-quality repairs and maintenance services.

You will support the upkeep and improvement of our residential and community properties across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, helping to provide safe and welcoming environments for residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and repair works, including:

• Replacing locks, door handles, and light fittings


• Basic carpentry, tiling, plastering, and general handyman tasks


• Assist with planned maintenance and refurbishment projects


• Prepare void properties for re\-letting


• Complete work safely and in line with health and safety

Requirements

• Maintain accurate records of completed work


• Deliver excellent customer service at all times

You will have:

• Experience in general property maintenance or a similar role


• Practical skills across a range of trades


• Good knowledge of health and safety practices


• Strong attention to detail and problem\-solving skills


• The ability to work independently and as part of a team


• Good communication and customer service skills


• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use

Due to the nature of the services provided, an enhanced DBS will be required, as will a full driving licence.

This is a Full Time role.

Hours per week: 37\.5

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 37\.5 hours per week. Due to operational requirements, employees may occasionally be required to work unsociable hours, particularly in emergency situations

• Family support through a network of children’s and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford


• Therapeutic and non\-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children


• Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire


• Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire


• Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11\-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
