Logistics Manager
Purpose of the Role
The Logistics Manager is responsible for coordinating the efficient movement of eggs, feed, and other operational supplies across multiple farm sites and Pack House. The role will ensure that logistics activities are planned effectively to support production requirements whilst maintaining oversight of the company fleet's maintenance and compliance schedules.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Pack House manager, farm managers, drivers, suppliers, and an external transport compliance consultant to ensure vehicles remain roadworthy, properly maintained, and available to support operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics \& Transport Planning
- Plan and coordinate egg collections and deliveries across multiple farm locations.
- Schedule and manage feed deliveries to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained at all sites.
- Coordinate vehicle movements to maximise efficiency and minimise transport costs.
- Liaise with feed suppliers, customers, transport providers, and farm management teams to ensure delivery schedules are achieved.
- Monitor stock levels and forecast feed requirements in conjunction with farm managers.
- Respond proactively to operational changes, breakdowns, delays, and other logistical challenges.
- Develop and maintain transport schedules and operational plans.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce transport\-related costs.
- Manage and support a team of six CPC\-qualified drivers.
- Oversee driver performance, attendance, compliance, and daily scheduling to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Coordinate driver rotas, holidays, absences, and route cover to maintain service continuity across all farm sites.
- Ensure all drivers operate in accordance with Driver Hours Regulations, Working Time Directive requirements, and company transport policies.
- Monitor tachograph records and transport documentation, addressing any issues promptly and escalating concerns where necessary.
- Conduct driver briefings and communications to promote high standards of safety, professionalism, and operational performance.
- Act as the primary point of contact for driver queries, operational issues, and day\-to\-day transport matters.
- Build positive working relationships with drivers and foster a collaborative, accountable, and professional team culture.
- Maintain records for all company vehicles, trailers, and transport equipment.
- Schedule vehicle servicing, MOT testing, inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure vehicle taxation, insurance, and associated documentation remain current.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with approved garages and service providers.
- Monitor vehicle availability and minimise downtime through effective planning.
- Maintain accurate fleet records and documentation.
- Act as the primary company contact for the external transport compliance consultant.
- Ensure all vehicle compliance requirements identified by the consultant are actioned within agreed timescales.
- Maintain compliance records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with vehicle inspections, audits, and record checks as required.
- Monitor driver documentation and company transport records where applicable.
- Escalate any compliance concerns or issues to management promptly.
- Work collaboratively with farm managers to understand production and transport requirements.
- Produce regular reports on transport activity, fleet utilisation, vehicle maintenance, and operational performance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within logistics and fleet management.
- Assist with budgeting and cost control relating to transport operations.
Essential
- Experience in logistics planning, transport coordination, fleet administration, or a similar operational role.
- Strong organisational and scheduling skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and record\-keeping ability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across several locations.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience managing, supervising, or coordinating drivers, transport teams, or operational staff.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance scheduling and fleet administration.
- Understanding of transport compliance requirements, including Driver Hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
- Experience using transport planning or fleet management systems.
- Knowledge of agricultural feed supply and livestock production operations.
