Locum Consultant in the department of Neurosurgery with special interest in Neuro\-Oncology and Hydrocephalus

This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Neurosurgeon, with special interests in Neuro\-Oncology and Hydrocephalus. This post will be available from August 2026 for a period of 6 months.

This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the neurosurgery team: Mr K Deniz, Mr C Derham, Mr N Phillips, Mr I Anderson, Mr A K Tyagi, Mr J Goodden, Mr R Corns, Mr G Sivakumar, Mr A Sheikh, Mr R Mathew, Ms R Chave\-Cox, and Mr J Livermore.

There will be opportunities to contribute to ongoing clinical research programmes within the department.

The post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.

The successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCS (Neuro. Surg.) or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of general Neurosurgery. Specifically, applicants must demonstrate higher training in Neuro\-oncology. Fellowship training in Neuro\-oncology is essential; Fellowship training in Hydrocephalus is desirable. Applicants should have established skills in Neuro\-Oncology Surgery and Hydrocephalus.

Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

What you will bring to the role
-----------------------------------

  • Fellowship\-level training in Neuro\-oncology and demonstrable competence in high grade glioma surgery, enabling you to step into this role and contribute effectively from the outset.

  • The ability to integrate quickly and professionally into an established consultant team, respecting existing working relationships and adapting to local protocols and systems without delay.

  • Flexibility and reliability across theatre lists, with a clear understanding that the priority of this post is to maintain robust, high\-quality cover across Monday and Friday operating sessions.

  • Experience in hydrocephalus management, allowing me to contribute to this aspect of the service alongside my primary neuro\-oncology commitment.

  • A collaborative approach to MDT working, with the ability to contribute meaningfully to oncology and spinal MDTs from day one.

  • Maintained and current clinical governance standards including up\-to\-date mandatory training, Datix familiarity, audit participation, and engagement with morbidity and mortality review processes.

  • A commitment to supporting and not disrupting the training of junior doctors and SpRs, acting as a safe and constructive clinical supervisor throughout the post.

  • Strong communication skills suited to a locum setting, where building trust with patients, families and colleagues quickly is essential.

  • Full GMC registration, current revalidation, and the professional standing required to practise independently as a consultant neurosurgeon without a period of supervised practice.

  • A short\-term commitment made with a long\-term mindset bringing the same standards, engagement and professionalism I would expect of a permanent post.
