MEDICAL

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR \- Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non\-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Hospital.

This is a 1\-year fixed term post supporting the General Surgery Directorate. This post will comprise emergency duties and elective sessions at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE). There may be outreach elective general surgical sessions at other hospitals in Lothian which is shared with other upper gastro\-intestinal (UGI) colleagues. This post will be part of a 1 in 17 on call Emergency Team (ET) rota providing 24/7 elective and emergency general and UGI services to the population of Lothian. Emergency surgical admissions to the Royal Infirmary are managed by a consultant of the week who has no elective sessions and full support of consultant, middle grade and foundation doctors.

The elective commitment of these posts will be as part of a team who provide specialist upper GI services that include treatment of benign oesophago\-gastric surgery, benign biliary surgery, bariatric surgery, complex hernia surgery and endocrine surgery as well as contributing to the overall general surgery workload of the department. After discussion, there may be potential for involvement in other services, for example, trauma, benign upper GI or complex hernia surgery.
