Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lighting Validation Engineer to support the testing and validation of interior and exterior vehicle lighting features.

The role involves planning and carrying out static and dynamic validation activities on development vehicles, including road testing and assessments during hours of darkness. You will work closely with engineering, feature, systems and regulatory teams to ensure lighting functions are validated accurately, issues are identified and resolved, and certification evidence is delivered against programme deadlines.

This is a practical, vehicle\-based engineering role suited to someone with strong automotive validation, fault\-finding and test\-planning experience, with appropriate advanced driving license.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the validation of interior and exterior lighting features across multiple vehicle programmes.

  • Plan and execute static and dynamic vehicle validation activities.

  • Conduct night\-time road testing and assessments in accordance with approved procedures and risk assessments.

  • Develop robust validation plans using input from engineering, systems, feature and regulatory stakeholders.

  • Interpret and execute complex test cases.

  • Identify faults, error states and functional issues during testing.

  • Record, raise and track engineering issues through to resolution.

  • Produce clear validation reports, test evidence and certification documentation.

  • Support programme gateways by ensuring validation activities are completed accurately and on time.

  • Maintain test equipment and ensure calibration records remain current.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of lighting validation methods.

  • Work collaboratively within Agile engineering teams.

  • Communicate validation status, risks and technical issues to relevant stakeholders.
Essential experience and skills
  • Previous experience working in automotive vehicle validation, testing or integration.

  • Experience planning and executing vehicle\-level test activities.

  • Ability to understand and process complex engineering test cases.

  • Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem\-solving skills.

  • Experience identifying, documenting and managing engineering defects.

  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple inputs and priorities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • A diligent, methodical and results\-focused approach.

  • Knowledge or practical experience of Agile engineering principles.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and during hours of darkness.
Driving and site requirements

Candidates should hold:

  • Advanced road\-driving authorisation.

  • Proving\-ground driving access.

  • Relevant vehicle and site\-specific driving permits.
Desirable experience
  • Previous lighting, electrical feature or vehicle attribute validation experience.

  • Experience validating headlamps, rear lamps, ambient lighting or interior illumination features.

  • Experience with electrical or software\-controlled vehicle functions.

  • Entry\-level car\-control or wet\-grip training.

  • Experience driving development vehicles on proving grounds.

  • Experience maintaining calibrated test equipment and calibration records.

  • Knowledge of requirements\-management and defect\-tracking systems.

  • Experience using tools such as JIRA, TRM, XRAY or equivalent platforms.

  • Understanding of automotive lighting regulations and certification processes.
