Landscape Construction Project Manager

WM Design Studio is looking for an experienced, practical and commercially aware Landscape Construction Manager to take ownership of the successful delivery of our high\-quality residential landscape projects.

This is a senior, hands\-on management role for someone who can confidently manage contractors, interpret construction information, control costs and drive projects forward.

You may already be working as a landscape project manager, contracts manager or site manager. The position could also suit an experienced landscaper or landscape foreman who has strong management and commercial skills and is ready to progress into a dedicated construction\-management role.

Working closely with our design team, you will manage projects through pre\-construction, onsite delivery, completion and aftercare. You will ensure that every project is properly planned, commercially controlled and constructed to the required standard.

Key responsibilities

• Manage landscape construction projects from pre\-construction through to completion.


• Coordinate and manage contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist trades.


• Read and interpret detailed construction drawings, specifications and schedules.


• Protect the studio’s design intent throughout construction.


• Plan construction programmes, sequencing, procurement and site logistics.


• Monitor workmanship, progress, site standards and health and safety.


• Chair site meetings and maintain accurate records of decisions and actions.


• Identify potential problems early and take responsibility for resolving them.


• Monitor project budgets, contractor valuations, variations and commercial performance.


• Review contractor quotations and support tender analysis and appointments.


• Maintain cost\-control spreadsheets, programmes and project reports.


• Provide clear progress and financial updates to the Creative Director and design team.


• Manage snagging, practical completion, defects and project handover.


• Build positive and professional relationships with clients, contractors and consultants.


• Help develop and improve the studio’s construction\-management systems.

About you

You will be a self\-starter who is comfortable taking ownership and making informed decisions. You should be equally confident inspecting work onsite, challenging a contractor, reviewing project costs and communicating professionally with clients.

You will need:

• Significant experience in landscape construction, residential construction or a closely related field.


• Experience managing contractors and coordinating work onsite.


• Strong practical knowledge of construction methods, materials and sequencing.


• The ability to read and understand construction drawings, details and specifications.


• Commercial awareness and experience of budgets, quotations, valuations and variations.


• The confidence to hold contractors accountable for quality, programme and cost.


• Strong organisation, problem\-solving and decision\-making skills.


• The ability to work independently and manage several projects at different stages.


• Competence with computers, spreadsheets and digital project\-management systems.


• Confidence using spreadsheets to monitor budgets, costs, variations and programmes.


• Clear written and verbal communication skills.


• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to project sites.

Formal qualifications in construction, landscaping or project management would be advantageous, but relevant experience, sound judgement and the ability to take ownership are more important.
