About us
------------
UCL is one of the UK’s leading universities, a world\-class multidisciplinary research and teaching institution, whose staff and former students have included 29 Nobel Prize winners. Founded in 1826, UCL was the first university in England to admit students regardless of race, religion or gender. It continues to thrive on the creativity and diversity of its community which today comprises 10,000 staff, 13,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduate students from 150 countries across the globe.
The Translational Research Office (TRO) builds on an increasingly vibrant translational culture across the Life and Medical Science (LMS) faculties and the wider university community by providing integrated support for translational research through applying expertise in commercial product development (e.g. drug, device, diagnostic) to securing translational award grants, and in leveraging industrial sponsored research and industrial partnerships investment.
About the role
------------------
UCL have established Therapeutic Innovation Networks (TINs) in Biologics, Cell \& Gene Therapy, Devices \& Diagnostics, Regenerative Medicine, Repurposing and Small Molecules.
The TINs are managed networks that facilitate funding and investment opportunities for UCL projects by providing 1\. Translational Skills Development 2\. External engagement and 3\. Translational funding.
The successful candidate will work to build the membership and focus of the industry network around each network into a broader “industry club” of pharma, biotech and SME members aligned to our interests in skills \& capabilities, funding and investment in translation, internal and external opportunity matching to industry, and horizon scanning for the opportunities of tomorrow.
Key outcomes include:
- Enhanced skill base in translation – evidenced by translational awards applications
- Enhanced and new industry investment with the progression of opportunities towards new spinouts \& licensing deals with our partners in UCL Business (UCLB)
- New frontiers / new opportunity spaces adopted by UCL due to our network engagement
- The facilitation of new partnerships in a timely manner, that might otherwise have been missed
- The integration of the TINs further into the TRO toolbox creating a more defined link between content / activities and output / impact
