ABOUT THE HOSPITAL:

Harley Street Specialist Hospital is an 11,100 square foot, six floor hospital building located in the heart of the Harley Street medical district. We boast the following:

• A full operating suite, recovery bay and six recovery pods on the lower ground floor


• A full operating suite, recovery bay with three beds and a private room on the ground floor


• A minor ops suite, pharmacy and imaging suite on the first floor


• Nine beautiful, newly refurbished consulting rooms throughout the hospital

We offer day surgery across a range of specialties, predominantly orthopaedic, plastic, cosmetic and others.

We have a team of specialist consultants on hand to provide expert care for patients seeking treatment in: orthopaedics (knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist, spine); oral maxillofacial; gynaecology; ophthalmology; gastroenterology and urology.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Imaging Department for an Imaging Manager looking to expand and develop their orthopaedic experience.

The successful postholder will provide comprehensive operational, clinical, and strategic leadership for the Imaging Department. You will be responsible for the day\-to\-day running of the service, ensuring full regulatory compliance, maintaining clinical safety, managing resources, and actively delivering hands\-on clinical imaging as required to meet operational demands.

In addition, you will act as the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for the department, taking operational responsibility for ensuring strict regulatory compliance with IR(ME)R and IRR frameworks, while liaising directly with the RPA and MPE.

This is a predominantly standalone position that offers the independence of managing an Imaging Department while working within a tight\-knit team environment. While you will be the sole full\-time management presence, you will have the dedicated support of a part\-time Senior Radiographer.

You will lead, oversee, and coordinate this small clinical team, ensuring operational excellence, managing external cover, and championing the professional growth of your staff.

About the Imaging Department:

Our modern Imaging Department features a fully functional suite equipped with an AGFA DR600 X\-ray machine and an Acteon X\-mind 3D Dental Scanner. Additionally, the hospital operates two fully functioning theatres utilising a Siemens Image Intensifier.

Our current operating hours are Monday to Friday, 06:30 – 18:00\.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

Team leadership \& Staff development:

• Oversee and coordinate the daily duties of the part\-time Senior Radiographer and any clinical or administrative support staff within the department


• Monitor the department's capacity and take full responsibility for booking bank or agency staff to ensure safe operational coverage during peak periods or leave


• Take an active, hands\-on role in the mentorship, training, and ongoing professional development of your team members


• Conduct regular 1:1’s, annual appraisals, and competency assessments to support staff retention and career progression

Operational co\-ordination:

• Design and manage staff rotas that blend your full\-time availability with the hours of your part\-time Senior Radiographer to maximise clinic efficiency


• Work closely with your team on the clinical floor, maintaining a high standard of diagnostic imaging alongside your managerial duties

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational \& Service Management:

• Manage the day\-to\-day operations of the Imaging Department, ensuring efficient patient throughput, high standards of care, and minimal waiting times


• Actively participate in the clinical rota alongside the team, performing high\-quality diagnostic imaging examinations to support service demands


• Design and manage staff rotas, strategically balancing your full\-time hours with those of the part\-time Senior Radiographer to maximise clinic utilisation


• Oversee departmental workflows during peak times, sick leave, or annual leave to ensure patient appointments are unaffected

People Management \& Workforce Planning:

• Provide leadership, guidance, and daily oversight to the part\-time Senior Radiographer and any administrative or clinical support staff


• Monitor staffing gaps and take full responsibility for sourcing, booking, and onboarding bank or agency staff to maintain safe operational levels


• Take an active, hands\-on role in the continuous professional development (CPD), mentorship, and training of all department members


• Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, annual appraisals, and clinical competency assessments to foster a supportive and high\-performing team environment

Governance, Quality \& Radiation Safety:

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with all statutory regulations, including IR(ME)R (Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations) and IRR (Ionising Radiations Regulations)


• Formulate, update, and implement local rules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and clinical protocols for the department


• Complete clinical audits as and when necessary, investigate any adverse incidents or near\-misses, and implement corrective actions through the organisation’s risk management frameworks


• Serve as the department's Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), ensuring full regulatory compliance (IR(ME)R/IRR) and coordinating with external safety advisors (RPA/MPE)

Asset, Equipment \& IT Management:

• Oversee routine Quality Assurance (QA) testing of all imaging equipment. Coordinate planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and urgent repairs with external service engineers to minimise downtime


• Oversee the operational functionality of the RIS (Radiology Information System) and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), troubleshooting or escalating technical faults as required


• Manage departmental stock levels, consumables, and contrast media efficiently within budgetary constraints.

Strategic \& Financial Management:

• Manage the Imaging Department’s budget, ensuring cost\-effective procurement of supplies and efficient use of temporary staffing resources


• Monitor, analyse, and report on departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as referral\-to\-treatment times and activity volumes, directly to executive leadership (CEO)


• Identify opportunities to optimise clinical pathways, modernize imaging techniques, and expand service capabilities

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING \& EXPERIENCE:

• Experience of working within the NHS/ private healthcare sector


• Minimum 5\+ year’s experience of working within an imaging department


• Significant Orthopaedics procedures experience *(essential)*


• A wide general radiographic background with expertise in one or more specialised area


• Degree in Diagnostic Radiography *(essential)*


• HCPC registered radiographer *(essential)*


• Demonsrate effective verbal and written communication skills *(essential)*


• Computer literate in Microsoft Office and any other relevant packages


• Experienced in PACS and other relevant IT systems *(desirable)*


• Knowledge of IRMER and IRR17 Regulations


• Aware of College of Radiographers and HCPC Code of Conduct / Accountability *(essential)*
