Job Overview
We are seeking a part time proactive and experienced HR Officer to join our HR team. This role covers the full employee lifecycle from onboarding through to more complex employee relations casework, including supporting probation, performance improvement, return to work, disciplinary and grievance processes.
You will work to ensure HR processes are delivered accurately, compliantly and with a strong focus on employee experience. This is a varied and fast\-paced role where no two days are the same \- you’ll use your professional HR expertise, sound judgment and problem\-solving skills to shape proactive solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the probation review process, including scheduling reviews and supporting line managers through outcomes.
- Support Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), including documentation, tracking and liaison with managers and employees.
- Assist with disciplinary and grievance casework, including note\-taking, preparing documentation and supporting managers through fair process in line with company policy and ACAS guidance.
- Manage return to work processes, including sickness absence checks.
- Lead new starter onboarding, including preparing contracts, coordinating inductions and managing the onboarding inbox.
- Manage the offboarding and leaver process end to end, including exit documentation and system updates.
- Handle external reference requests for current and former employees.
- Maintain and update employee records on the HR system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with data protection requirements.
- Complete all new DBS applications, including renewal checks and keep training records up to date and compliant.
- Assist in employee enquiries via the shared HR inbox, responding in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure company policies are observed and good practice encouraged, particularly around Health \& Safety, Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
- Contribute to wider HR projects as required.
- Previous experience in an HR administration or HR officer role, ideally including exposure to employee relations casework (probation, performance, absence, disciplinary or grievance).
- CIPD Level 3 required, or proven working knowledge; CIPD Level 5 (or working towards) desirable.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and best practice HR processes.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied and sometimes sensitive caseload.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
- Discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small, collaborative HR team.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Open, honest, forward\-thinking, reliable, with high professional and personal standards.
- £14\.00 per hour.
- 20 hours per week, Monday \- Friday (flexible across 4/5 days).
- 20 days annual holiday \+ bank holidays (pro rata), plus 1 extra day per year based on length of service, up to a maximum of 5 days.
