Main purpose of the role:
Northease Manor School is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self\-motivated, and ambitious HR Officer who has worked in a school, charity or similar HR environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to work in a specialist SEND charity, contributing to the smooth operations of Human Resources across all areas.
The HR officer will work closely with the Headteacher, the Finance Manager and Senior Leadership Team, offering support and guidance with all HR matters when required. The role incorporates both strategic and operational HR, supported by our external HR advisers.
Main Responsibilities, Tasks and Duties:
- Manage the recruitment process across all departments maintaining the highest professional courtesy and response as the first point of contact for the school
- Ensure compliance with relevant internal policies and procedures as well as external requirements (including relevant employment legislation, safer recruitment compliance and relevant codes of practice)
- Provide HR advice and guidance to the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and staff
- Support the implementation of HR strategy through delivery of delegated projects
- Maintain an accurate HR database
- Maintaining confidentiality is critical to this role
- The HR Officer is expected to lead on guidance and support regarding the full range of HR activities, including HR policies and procedures, terms and conditions of employment, absence management, recruitment, staff well\-being, maternity/paternity/adoption/SPL, flexible working, performance management, employee relations and compliance to ensure there is a consistent and fair approach to people management throughout the school
- To act as the first point of contact and provide support, advice and guidance for all staff in relation to HR matters (including information on contracts, recruitment, maternity/paternity/adoption/SP leave, flexible working requests, absence management, staff benefits and compliance etc.)
- Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant regulatory and compliance requirements, employment law, data protection and health and safety
- Keep up to date with legal developments, ensuring policies are updated and advise on compliance and risk factors
- To monitor absence alongside the Administrative Service Manager and work with the SLT and Line Managers to initiate and oversee the Attendance Management procedure, which includes advice when triggers are reached
- Working alongside the Administrative Service Manager to ensure all absence records are accurately maintained, recorded and regularly updated
- To manage all aspects of the recruitment process including advertisements, person specifications, coordinating applications, interviews and responses
- Ensure all aspects of the process meet the safer recruitment guidelines and do not expose the school to risk in respect of recruitment and safeguarding practices
- Responsible for maintaining an up\-to\-date database of all job descriptions
- To manage safer recruitment process ensuring all newly appointed staff have under\-gone relevant pre\-employment checks, this includes; Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; verification of qualifications, satisfactory references, health clearance, and employment gaps
- To assist the Headteacher and SLT with monitoring the induction and probation process
- To be responsible for the implementation, updating and accuracy of staff personnel records and to provide reports, when requested by the Headteacher and SLT
- To ensure that all templates relating to employment matters are maintained centrally on the shared drive and that personnel information is stored safely and confidentially including the hard copy files, in adherence to UKGDPR
- To advise SLT in the performance management (PM) of staff. To recommend on appropriate measures and potential solutions during the PM process
- To ensure that school staff are aware of school policies and procedures and able to operate within them effectively
- To co\-ordinate and support investigations, grievance and disciplinary matters in conjunction with the SLT
- To ensure all paperwork regarding new appointments, changes to contracts, variation letters, promotions and resignations are completed, filed and forwarded to the Finance Manager
- To conduct exit interviews for staff leavers and provide feedback to the Headteacher
- To provide HR information for references for leavers and previously employed staff
- To support the Headteacher with the development and implementation of new projects as and when required
