Hotel Assistant Manager

£20 per hour \+ Performance\-Related Bonus
Approx. 35 hours per week
Full\-time preferred; strong part\-time candidates may also be considered

We are an independent boutique hotel in Marylebone, Central London, looking for an experienced, commercially minded and highly hands\-on Hotel Manager to take ownership of the day\-to\-day operation of the property.

This is not a purely office\-based management role.

The successful candidate will form part of the operational Front Office rota and will personally cover reception shifts while managing the wider hotel operation. During quieter periods at reception, the Hotel Manager will also manage reservations, pricing, revenue performance, staff rotas, guest communication, OTA channels and other management responsibilities.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable being both the manager and the person actually running the hotel on the floor.

Key Responsibilities

Front Office \& Daily Operations

  • Personally cover Front Office / Duty Manager shifts as part of the regular rota

  • Manage check\-in, check\-out, payments, reservations, telephone and email enquiries

  • Handle late arrivals, room moves and operational issues independently

  • Maintain accurate reservations, billing and room status within Opera Cloud

  • Ensure smooth day\-to\-day running of the hotel without unnecessary escalation to ownership
Guest Experience
  • Handle guest complaints professionally and make appropriate operational decisions

  • Resolve issues relating to rooms, noise, maintenance, payments and reservations

  • Manage compensation, refunds and OTA disputes appropriately

  • Monitor guest feedback and online reviews and identify recurring operational issues
Housekeeping
  • Coordinate daily housekeeping priorities including arrivals, departures and stayovers

  • Inspect rooms and maintain consistent cleaning standards

  • Ensure room status is accurately reflected in the PMS

  • Work closely with housekeeping staff and agency workers to control quality and labour usage
Maintenance \& Property Operations
  • Confidently troubleshoot everyday hotel issues including:

  • door locks

  • televisions

  • Wi\-Fi

  • air conditioning and heating

  • lighting

  • plumbing and water\-related issues

  • Resolve simple operational problems directly where appropriate

  • Coordinate contractors for specialist repairs

  • Follow up outstanding maintenance so rooms are returned to sale as quickly as possible

  • Identify recurring maintenance issues and reduce unnecessary contractor costs
Revenue \& Commercial Performance
  • Monitor occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, booking pace and pickup

  • Review pricing regularly and adjust rates/promotions according to demand

  • Identify weak dates early and maximise revenue from strong dates

  • Manage Booking.com, Expedia and other OTA channels

  • Reduce unnecessary OTA commission through:

  • direct bookings

  • repeat guests

  • corporate accounts

  • long\-stay business

  • local partnerships

  • Actively identify opportunities to increase hotel revenue and profitability
Staff \& Labour Management
  • Prepare efficient staff rotas based on occupancy and operational requirements

  • Manage Front Office and housekeeping staff

  • Train new team members and maintain operating standards

  • Monitor performance, attendance and reliability

  • Reduce unnecessary agency usage and avoid overstaffing

  • Support recruitment when required
Financial \& Cost Control
  • Manage the hotel with a strong awareness of profitability

  • Monitor labour cost, agency spend, OTA commission, laundry, maintenance and other controllable expenses

  • Challenge unnecessary expenditure

  • Balance guest experience with commercial decision\-making

  • Provide concise operational and financial updates to ownership
What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous hotel management, duty management or senior Front Office experience

  • Be highly confident using Opera Cloud

  • Have strong hands\-on Front Office experience

  • Understand housekeeping operations and room inspection standards

  • Be commercially aware and comfortable working with ADR, occupancy, RevPAR and booking pace

  • Understand OTA platforms such as Booking.com and Expedia

  • Be confident handling difficult guests and making decisions independently

  • Have good practical judgement when dealing with maintenance issues

  • Be organised, reliable and comfortable working with a small team

  • Have excellent written and spoken English

  • Be willing to work some weekends and operational shifts where required
Experience in an independent or boutique hotel environment would be particularly valuable.

The Person We Want

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a smaller independent hotel where they can have a genuine impact on the business.

We are looking for someone who sees an empty room, unnecessary agency shift, unresolved maintenance issue or excessive OTA commission as a commercial problem to solve, rather than simply something to report.

The right person will have the autonomy to make operational decisions and will be rewarded for improving the performance and profitability of the hotel.

Pay: From £20\.00 per hour

Expected hours: 21\.0 – 40\.0 per week

Work Location: In person
