Our Wigan service is recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join them in providing high quality recovery care to a diverse client group. If you are an enthusiastic and creative individual and are passionate about changing people’s lives for the better, we’d love to hear from you.

As a leading charity supporting people with drug, alcohol, and mental health challenges, we operate over 80 services across England and Scotland, providing free and confidential support to more than 100,000 people each year. Find out more about us here.

Wigan and Leigh is an integrated drug and alcohol service delivering an asset\-based, community\-focused approach to treatment. The service specialises in harm reduction, including needle and syringe provision, psychosocial interventions, and opioid substitution treatment. We also facilitate access to detoxification and a wide range of community\-based recovery interventions. Find out more about the service and our team here.

Job Opportunity

As a Healthcare Assistant you will assess clients, develop a care plan that will work for them and then, with the support and guidance of the clinical team, provide the necessary treatment. We are here to support anyone who needs help with substance misuse, and you will be part of our clinical team delivering this important service. We work as one team across the service to ensure our clients get the best possible care, referring them on to other specialist teams where needed.

As part of this Healthcare Assistant role, you will also help clients to take a holistic approach to their overall health and recovery journey by helping them to understand the importance of their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing too.

This is a full time, permanent role, working on site at our Wigan Service.

Essential Skills

To be able to carry out this Healthcare Assistant role successfully, you will:

  • hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health \& Social Care or equivalent

  • have a successful track record of working in a healthcare setting and collaborating with a multi\-disciplinary team

  • have experience of carrying out basic health observations such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and height

  • be able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of different people and work effectively as part of a team

  • be able to show how you have developed yourself in previous jobs

  • be able to manage your time at work, prioritising effectively and dealing with competing demands on your time

  • be confident in your abilities and show your enthusiasm for this role

  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • be able to accurately collate, record, and maintain information

  • be comfortable using IT and digital media

  • be able to be flexible with working times and able to travel to other locations from time to time
