About The Role
We are currently recruiting for a Health \& Safety Manager / Supervisor to join an established food manufacturing operation in Holme\-on\-Spalding\-Moor.
This is a hands\-on position for an experienced Health \& Safety professional who can work closely with operational teams, managers and employees to maintain high standards of workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
You will take responsibility for supporting the day\-to\-day Health \& Safety function across the site, ensuring risks are identified and controlled, legislation is followed and employees receive the appropriate guidance and training.
The role will involve a mixture of site inspections, risk management, incident investigations, compliance checks, employee engagement and ongoing improvements to the site's Health \& Safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Take an active role in managing Health \& Safety across the manufacturing site.
- Provide practical Health \& Safety guidance to managers, supervisors and employees.
- Complete, review and update risk assessments, COSHH assessments and other safety documentation.
- Carry out regular workplace inspections and identify areas requiring corrective action.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, helping establish root causes and appropriate preventative measures.
- Monitor agreed Health \& Safety actions and ensure outstanding issues are followed through to completion.
- Deliver Health \& Safety inductions, toolbox talks and other relevant training.
- Arrange and monitor statutory inspections and maintain accurate records.
- Support the site's fire safety arrangements and emergency procedures.
- Maintain Health \& Safety reports, documentation, registers and compliance records.
- Assist with internal reviews, external audits and regulatory inspections.
- Work alongside Operations, Engineering, HR and Technical teams to maintain consistent safety standards.
- Contribute to Health \& Safety meetings, reporting and site performance monitoring.
- Identify opportunities to improve working practices, employee awareness and overall site safety.
- Encourage a strong and proactive Health \& Safety culture throughout the workforce.
- Ensure lifting equipment and relevant lifting activities are appropriately managed and inspected in line with LOLER requirements.
- Support managers in implementing safe systems of work and effective control measures.
We are looking for someone who has practical Health \& Safety experience and is comfortable operating within a busy manufacturing or industrial environment.
You should be confident communicating with people at all levels of an organisation and have the ability to challenge unsafe practices where necessary while maintaining a practical and approachable manner.
Essential Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate or an equivalent Health \& Safety qualification.
- Previous experience in a Health \& Safety Supervisor, Advisor, Coordinator, Manager or similar position.
- Practical experience within manufacturing, food production or another industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health \& Safety legislation and workplace compliance.
- Experience producing and reviewing risk assessments and COSHH assessments.
- Understanding of accident, incident and near\-miss investigations.
- Experience carrying out workplace inspections and monitoring corrective actions.
- Knowledge of LOLER and the safe management of lifting equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working with both employees and management.
- Good organisational, administration and reporting abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to compliance.
- Previous experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
- IOSH membership or additional Health \& Safety qualifications.
- Understanding of HACCP and food safety principles.
- Experience preparing for or supporting external audits and inspections.
- Knowledge of occupational health and employee wellbeing.
- Experience using Health \& Safety management systems.
- Familiarity with Health \& Safety KPIs, reporting and continuous improvement programmes.
Salary: £40,000 \- £45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am \- 4:30pm.
Holiday: 28 days including bank holidays.
