Head of Marketing
Head of Market Management – Paints, Coatings \& Building Envelope Systems
Salary: £80,000 \+ bonus and car or allowance
Location: Staffordshire
Type: Full\-time, permanent
The Opportunity
This is a newly created leadership role, built to bring the whole of Market Management under one roof. Product marketing, marketing communications, technical service, academy and events, and service solutions have all been pulling in their own direction. You’ll bring them together into a single function with a single plan \- and then set the direction it runs in.
You’ll report directly to the General Manager and act as the main bridge between the UK business and a European group with serious technical and brand firepower behind it. If you’ve built the marketing strategy for a country and want the authority to shape portfolio, brand and go\-to\-market rather than just deliver against them, this is that role.
About the Company
Our client is the UK business of one of Europe’s largest independent, family\-owned manufacturers of paints, coatings and facade systems. Founded in 1895 and now in its fifth generation of family ownership, the group employs around 6,000 people, turns over in the region of €1\.3 billion, and operates in more than 30 countries. It is the third largest manufacturer of architectural paints in Europe and the market leader in Germany, Austria and Turkey.
The group’s brands cover professional decorative coatings, external wall insulation, and render systems, building protection, floor coatings and industrial colour \- supplied to contractors, applicators, specifiers, architects and merchants. It’s a genuinely technical manufacturer: its own R\&D, its own colour science, its own systems, backed by technical service and training that customers actually rely on.
Family ownership matters here. Decisions are made on a long horizon rather than a quarterly one, sustainability and low\-emission product development were priorities decades before they became a marketing line, and people tend to build careers rather than pass through. In the UK the business has the reach and reputation of a major European manufacturer with the pace and accessibility of a much smaller operation.
The Role
As Head of Market Management, you’ll lead the local Market Management organisation and own how the portfolio is positioned, priced into the market and taken to customers. The job is to align local marketing, product and service activity with group standards while making sure the plan genuinely reflects what this market needs \- and to turn that into marketing plans, KPIs and budgets that deliver.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading the Market Management organisation \- setting targets, developing the team and building professional capability
- Uniting the local Market Management functions \- product marketing, marketing communications, technical service, academy and events, and service solutions \- into one coherent function
- Aligning local marketing, product and service requirements with group\-wide standards and initiatives
- Owning the local marketing plan end to end, with clear KPI tracking against strategic objectives
- Optimising budget allocation across the mix \- backing the initiatives that work and maximising return on spend
- Leading local product boards and contributing to regional boards, so local reality feeds into group strategy
- Overseeing portfolio positioning and marketing activity so the range meets real market demand
- Feeding local market insight into group marketing plans and shaping brand positioning to fit both group standards and local conditions
- Acting as the contact point for local management and group functions on all marketing topics
- Implementing training concepts and technical support services that give customers a reason to stay
- Reporting into \- and working directly alongside \- the General Manager
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in marketing management, preferably within the construction supply industry or a related sector
- Proven track record of leading cross\-functional teams and running complex marketing strategies at country level
- Strong understanding of both local and group\-wide market dynamics, and the ability to turn strategic insight into an actionable plan
- Comfortable owning a portfolio \- positioning, product marketing and brand \- rather than campaigns alone
- Confident with budgets, KPIs and ROI, and able to defend the numbers at senior level
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the credibility to influence and align internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of operating inside a group or matrix structure, balancing central standards with local commercial judgement, is a strong advantage
- Advanced degree in Marketing, Business Administration or a related field; MBA preferred
- Full UK driving licence
Competitive senior leadership salary, with the full package discussed at interview
Bonus structure and car or car allowance
A newly created role with the scope to shape the function rather than inherit it
Direct reporting line to the General Manager and a genuine seat at the strategy table
Influence beyond the UK through regional and group product boards
The backing of a 130\-year\-old European manufacturer \- R\&D, brand strength and technical depth behind everything you take to market
Long\-term, family\-owned stability and the kind of investment horizon that lets a marketing strategy actually play out
