SCOPE OF ROLE

Engineering Leadership \& Strategy

  • Provide senior technical authority across civil and electrical engineering (up to 400KV), acting as the primary point of contact for engineering matters within the team.

  • Define engineering delivery strategy for 11KV to 400KV projects, from design through to final commissioning, ensuring alignment with JSM's SHEQ values and engineering policies \& procedures.

  • In conjunction with the Head of Engineering Standards, define and maintain engineering standards, processes, and assurance frameworks across the business.

  • Establish engineering governance for design delivery, technical reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination.

  • Work collaboratively with internal support functions to ensure alignment and prioritisation of initiatives and improvement activity.

  • Deputise where requested and undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Operations Director.
Project Delivery Oversight
  • Lead the full engineering lifecycle of a project from feasibility and design development through to construction and final commissioning. Ensure designs are buildable, safe, compliant, and cost\-effective, integrating early contractor involvement and constructability reviews.

  • Ensure alignment between design intent, construction methodology, and commercial targets.

  • Identify and manage engineering risk proactively, embedding risk management into design and delivery processes.

  • Work collaboratively to resolve design issues escalated for assurance review.

  • Integrate lessons learned, audit findings, and safety insights into engineering processes.

  • Support safety investigations by providing technical input when required.

  • Act as senior engineering representative for clients and internal stakeholders.
Commercial Support
  • Provide technical inputs into bids and tenders, ensuring methodologies and programmes support a competitive and commercially sound submission.

  • Work closely with estimators and commercial teams to align engineering solutions with cost and risk.
People Leadership \& Capability
  • Lead, manage, and develop the engineering team, including setting objectives, managing performance, and supporting development through structured development pathways.

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of resident civil \& electrical engineers and commissioning managers.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure appropriate resource planning, structure, and capability are in place to meet business needs.
Continuous Improvement \& Innovation
  • Drive improvements in processes, systems, and engineering approaches.

  • Drive innovation in all engineering interfaces, including BIM, automation, and design efficiency.

  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and enhance delivery
HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED

  • Driving engineering excellence whilst maintaining an unwavering focus on safety and SHEQ compliance.

  • Proactively managing risk and ensuring design quality across a complex portfolio of HV infrastructure projects.

  • Championing continuous improvement and innovation across all engineering interfaces.

  • Building strong relationships with clients, DNOs, and internal stakeholders at a senior level.
WHAT IT TAKES

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering HV infrastructure and new connection projects in the UK from 11KV to 400KV.

  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams, either for a DNO/TSO or ICP in the UK.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Authorised Person or Commissioning Engineer from 11KV up to 132KV (400KV desirable).

  • Deep technical knowledge of HV plant and switchgear, substation design, cable systems, civil engineering, and protection \& control.

  • Strong understanding of the UK Distribution Safety Rules and DNO G81 technical standards, along with the requirements of the NERS scheme and other statutory bodies.

  • Experience supporting tendering, estimation, and work\-winning activities.

  • Commercially minded with a practical, delivery\-focused approach, whilst ensuring tendered gross margins are achieved.

  • Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Full clean UK driving licence with willingness to travel to site as required.

  • Excellent analytical and problem\-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify root causes.

  • A track record of self\-motivation and inspiring change in an evolving industry with increased utilisation of technology.

  • A flexible and dynamic approach, pragmatic, diplomatic, but assertive; able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
