The Role

We are seeking a friendly, organised Head Dental Nurse who genuinely enjoys working with patients and is eager to be a key part of our team. In this role, you will provide vital chairside and administrative support to ensure the practice runs smoothly and patients have a positive experience. The ideal candidate is GDC\-registered, confident in both clinical and front\-of\-house duties, and passionate about maintaining high standards of care in a calm, patient\-focused setting.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support

  • Provide chairside assistance during dental procedures, ensuring the dentist has the necessary instruments and materials ready.

  • Ensure patient comfort throughout treatments, offering reassurance and a calm presence.

  • Prepare treatment rooms before appointments, setting up instruments and materials in line with each procedure’s requirements.
Patient Care \& Front Desk
  • Greet patients warmly and create a calm, professional first impression at reception.

  • Support patients before and after treatments by clearly explaining procedures, post\-treatment care, and answering any questions.

  • Answer incoming phone calls in a courteous manner, assist with appointment scheduling, and handle basic inquiries or patient requests.
Infection Control \& Sterilisation
  • Follow strict decontamination and infection control protocols at all times, in compliance with practice policies and CQC standards.

  • Clean, sterilise, and prepare dental instruments and equipment meticulously, maintaining an organised sterilisation area.

  • Maintain accurate records of sterilisation cycles and infection control procedures.

  • Ensure the practice (clinical and common areas) is kept clean, tidy, and presentable throughout the day.
Administration \& Organization
  • Maintain up\-to\-date and accurate patient records, ensuring confidentiality and attention to detail.

  • Manage stock levels for clinical consumables and supplies – monitor inventory and assist in ordering to prevent shortages.

  • Liaise with dental laboratories: prepare lab submission forms, track outgoing and incoming lab cases, and ensure timely delivery of prosthetics and appliances.
Teamwork \& Professionalism
  • Contribute to a positive team environment – support colleagues, share knowledge, and maintain a professional and respectful working atmosphere.

  • Be willing to step in to help with various tasks as needed, embodying a collaborative team spirit.
Requirements
  • GDC Registration: Must be a GDC\-registered Dental Nurse. (Current General Dental Council registration is a mandatory requirement.)

  • Experience: Previous dental nursing experience in the UK is preferred. (Experience working in a private practice setting is a plus.)

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills with a friendly, patient\-focused attitude. Ability to make patients feel comfortable and well\-informed.

  • Organisational Skills: Strong ability to stay organised and multitask in a busy clinical environment. Attention to detail when managing instruments, records, and schedules.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to support both clinical duties and administrative/reception tasks as needed.

  • Professionalism: Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic. Committed to maintaining high professional standards in patient care and teamwork.
Certification: Up\-to\-date CPD (Continuing Professional Development) record and inoculations as required for clinical staff (preferred).

License/Certification: GDC registration is a must (required to practice as a Dental Nurse in the UK).
