Group Maintenance Manager / Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
The role
Barworks is looking for an experienced and highly capable Group Maintenance Manager to keep our venues safe, compliant and running smoothly. This is a senior, hands\-on position for a practical all\-rounder who can diagnose problems quickly, complete a wide range of repairs and take ownership of maintenance across five busy hospitality sites.
You will work directly with our Operations Director and CEO, while managing your own priorities with a high degree of independence. Support and decisions will always be available when needed, but day to day you will be trusted to assess issues, act quickly and see work through properly.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of planned, preventive and reactive maintenance across all five venues.
- Diagnose and complete repairs involving electrical systems, plumbing, fixtures, fittings, fabric and general building maintenance, working only within your competence and qualifications.
- Respond promptly to urgent breakdowns and participate in the agreed out of hours emergency call out arrangement.
- Prioritise work based on safety, compliance, operational impact and guest experience, keeping venue teams informed throughout.
- Create and maintain practical maintenance schedules, asset information, service records and clear records of completed work.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend durable, cost\-effective solutions rather than repeated short\-term fixes.
- Source parts and materials, obtain and compare quotations, and manage maintenance costs responsibly.
- Appoint and coordinate approved specialist contractors where work requires additional certification, equipment or capacity; monitor quality, cost and completion.
- Support statutory inspections, servicing and compliance activity, escalating risks or overdue actions immediately.
- Carry out routine checks and support venue opening, refurbishment and improvement projects where required.
- Build strong working relationships with General Managers, kitchen teams and senior leaders across the group.
- Maintain tools, equipment and any company vehicle safely, securely and in good working order.
- Substantial hands\-on maintenance experience in hospitality, leisure, retail or another fast\-moving multi\-site environment.
- Strong practical experience across both electrical and plumbing work, supported by relevant recognised trade qualification or qualifications, or demonstrably equivalent competence.
- A sound understanding of safe systems of work and the limits of your own competence, with the judgement to bring in a specialist contractor when required.
- The ability to diagnose faults calmly, make sensible decisions and complete work to a consistently high standard.
- Excellent organisation and the confidence to manage competing priorities across several live venues.
- A self\-sufficient and accountable approach, with clear communication and good record keeping.
- Flexibility to travel between East and Central London and respond to genuine operational emergencies outside normal working hours.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Gas Safe registration or relevant gas qualifications.
- PAT testing competence or certification.
- Commercial refrigeration or air\-conditioning experience.
- Commercial kitchen equipment and appliance fault\-finding or repair experience.
- Experience with extraction, cellar, drainage, HVAC, fire safety or access\-control systems.
- An existing van and professional tool set. A suitable company vehicle \& tool set can be provided if required.
What we offer
- Salary of £60,000 to £75,000, depending on experience, qualifications and specialist capability.
- 28 days' holiday per year, including bank holidays.
- Workplace pension.
- Staff discount and meals while working.
- Confidential 24\-7 Employee Assistance Programme support.
- Company mobile phone.
- A suitable company vehicle where required.
- Support towards relevant additional training or qualifications for the right candidate.
This is a mobile role across five operational venues. The successful candidate will organise their working week around planned maintenance and business priorities and will also take part in an agreed emergency call out arrangement. The practical details of availability, response expectations, time off and any additional call out arrangements will be confirmed with the successful candidate.
