Group General Manager
NXTGEN Group is looking for an experienced, commercially minded General Manager to work directly with the owners and oversee the continued – NXTGEN Group growth and day\-to\-day performance of our three core construction divisions.
This is a senior role within the business and we are looking for someone who can combine strong operational management with a real commercial mindset.
The successful candidate will not just manage what we already have — they will play a major part in helping NXTGEN secure new work, strengthen client relationships, improve commercial performance and grow the Group across our key sectors.
Our Divisions
NXTGEN Scaffolding
Commercial and residential scaffolding across London and the South East.
NXTGEN Futures
Building refurbishment and retrofit (PAS2030\) including ventilation, external wall insulation, internal wall insulation, roofing, ventilation, brickwork and associated construction works.
NXTGEN Energy
Solar PV and renewable energy installations across residential, commercial and public\-sector projects.
The Role
Reporting directly to the owners, the General Manager will take responsibility for overseeing operations, commercial performance and business growth across the Group.
You will work closely with our existing management, commercial and operational teams while helping to create greater structure, accountability and consistency across all three divisions.
A major part of this position will be commercial growth and business development.
We want someone who understands the construction industry, can identify opportunities, build relationships with clients and main contractors, and help turn opportunities into secured projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day\-to\-day performance of NXTGEN Scaffolding, NXTGEN Futures and NXTGEN Energy.
- Work directly with the owners on the Group's growth strategy.
- Help identify and secure new contracts, frameworks and project opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with main contractors, local authorities, housing associations, consultants and other key clients.
- Develop existing client accounts and identify opportunities for repeat and additional work.
- Support tendering, estimating and commercial negotiations.
- Review upcoming opportunities and help decide which projects the business should target.
- Attend client meetings, tender interviews and commercial meetings where required.
- Monitor project performance, margins and profitability.
- Ensure contracts are being delivered commercially and operationally in line with expectations.
- Challenge poor performance and identify opportunities to improve margins.
- Work closely with contracts managers, project managers, quantity surveyors and operational teams.
- Improve systems, processes and reporting across the Group.
- Monitor workloads, labour requirements and resources across each division.
- Help develop and strengthen the existing management team.
- Ensure clear accountability across departments and projects.
- Review monthly performance against turnover, margin and growth targets.
- Identify opportunities where our divisions can work together to provide clients with a wider package of services.
- Help position NXTGEN for larger and longer\-term contracts and frameworks.
- Report directly to the owners on operational, commercial and business development performance.
This role would suit someone who has held a senior management position within the construction, scaffolding, refurbishment, retrofit, roofing, renewable energy or building\-services sectors.
You must be commercially aware and comfortable discussing project values, margins, tenders, contracts and business development.
We are particularly interested in someone who:
- Has experience managing a construction or contracting business or division.
- Has strong commercial awareness.
- Understands how construction projects make and lose money.
- Has experience winning or developing new business.
- Is confident dealing with senior clients and main contractors.
- Can identify opportunities and turn relationships into work.
- Is comfortable reviewing tenders and commercial proposals.
- Understands operational delivery as well as commercial performance.
- Can manage and hold senior team members accountable.
- Is organised and capable of overseeing several divisions and projects simultaneously.
- Is comfortable working directly with business owners.
- Has a proactive, entrepreneurial approach rather than waiting for instructions.
- Wants to help build and grow a business rather than simply maintain it.
