Chanctonbury Wines is a neighbourhood wine shop and bar on Steyning High Street. We’re looking for a General Manager to oversee the day\-to\-day running of the shop and bar, working alongside our wider management team.

This is a hands\-on role for someone with hospitality experience, a genuine interest in wine and craft beer, and the confidence to run a multi\-faceted venue with a regular programme of events.

The role

• Opening and closing the premises and acting as keyholder


• Running the shop/bar independently during shifts


• Maintaining and serving the in\-house food offering.


• Serving throughout the day / evening across drink\-in and retail, providing advice for guests when required


• Maintaining excellent customer service, cleanliness and presentation


• Managing stock \& ordering along with maintaining POS \& stock control.


• Maintaining food safety, EHO, licensing and Health \& Safety procedures


• Ensuring handovers and distribution of information through the team


• Running and developing an events schedule including tastings, pop ups and private events


• Ensuring training and development of junior staff in their respective roles

The main place of work is Chanctonbury Wines, Steyning High Street, with some administrative work possible remotely. Shifts are rotated across Tuesday–Sunday.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in hospitality, ideally with management or keyholder experience


• Confident working independently and taking responsibility for a shift


• Friendly, organised and customer\-focused


• Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about wine and craft beer


• Comfortable with stock, tills and basic administration


• Able to follow food safety, licensing and Health \& Safety procedures

A Personal Licence is essential. WSET Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) is preferred, although wine training can be provided.
