We are looking for a reliable, organised and confident General Manager to provide maternity cover at our busy Royal British Legion Club in Chapeltown.

This is a hands\-on management role, responsible for the day\-to\-day running of the club, supporting our staff team and ensuring the club operates safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

An immediate start is available, allowing time for a full handover and training before the current General Manager begins maternity leave.

About the role

The role will involve overseeing the everyday operation of the club, including:

• Opening and closing the premises


• Managing the day\-to\-day running of the club


• Cash handling, cashing up and maintaining accurate financial records


• Paying staff and ensuring wages are processed correctly


• Paying cash into the bank


• Managing staff rotas and ensuring appropriate staffing levels


• Dealing with staff queries and day\-to\-day staff matters


• Managing annual leave, sickness and holiday records


• Supporting and managing the wider staff team


• Ordering drinks, supplies and other stock


• Monitoring stock levels and keeping track of deliveries


• Carrying out regular stock checks


• Maintaining good relationships with suppliers


• Ensuring the bar and club are clean, organised and running efficiently


• Ensuring staff follow club procedures and appropriate licensing, health \& safety and operational requirements


• Dealing with members and customers and helping to maintain a welcoming atmosphere


• Supporting events, functions and entertainment at the club


• Liaising with the committee and relevant suppliers when required


• Completing general administration associated with the running of the club

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

• Confident taking responsibility and making decisions


• Reliable, organised and able to work independently


• Comfortable managing and delegating to a team


• Confident dealing with cash and financial responsibilities


• Able to manage rotas, holidays and staff matters effectively


• Comfortable using email and basic computer systems


• Able to communicate professionally with staff, suppliers, members and the committee


• Flexible and willing to get stuck in where needed


• Experienced in a pub, bar, club, hospitality or management environment

Previous management or supervisory experience is required, particularly experience within hospitality, but we are happy to consider someone with strong supervisory experience who is ready to take the next step.

Desirable skills

• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be an advantage, particularly for banking and collecting supplies, but this is not essential


• Line cleaning training would be an advantage, although this is not essential as we already have trained members of staff who can carry this out


• Experience with cashing up, banking or payroll is necessary


• Experience managing rotas and staff holidays would be beneficial

Hours and pay

£14\.95 per hourApproximately 25–30 hours per week

The role will require flexibility as some opening and closing shifts will be necessary. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working some evenings and weekends where required.

This is a fixed\-term maternity cover position, with the possibility of further opportunities depending on the needs of the club.

Training and handover

The successful candidate will start as soon as possible to allow for a proper handover and training period with the current General Manager.

The aim is to ensure you are fully confident with the club's systems, staff, suppliers, banking, cash handling, rotas, ordering and day\-to\-day procedures before taking over the role independently.
