GCSE English Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and inspirational GCSE Core Subject Tutor to support young people in an alternative education setting. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher, tutor, or education professional who is passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

Working with students who may have SEND, SEMH needs, or gaps in education, you will deliver engaging, personalised learning in Maths, English, and/or Science at GCSE level. Sessions take place during school hours, 3 to 5 days per week during term time.

The Role

As a GCSE Core Subject Tutor, you will provide tailored educational support to students on a one-to-one or small-group basis, adapting your teaching approach to suit individual learning styles and needs.

You will play a key role in building confidence, developing subject knowledge, and helping students re-engage with education through a supportive and nurturing approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one and small-group tutoring sessions tailored to individual learning needs


• Plan and deliver engaging lessons that support GCSE-level learning


• Adapt teaching methods to meet a variety of learning styles, abilities, and SEND requirements


• Support students in developing subject knowledge, confidence, and academic progress


• Create a positive and encouraging learning environment


• Use a relational and trauma-informed approach to behaviour support


• Monitor, evaluate, and record student progress


• Contribute to personalised learning plans, reports, and EHCP reviews where required


• Work closely with education professionals and other specialists to ensure students receive effective support


• Communicate regularly regarding student attendance, progress, and development

• Teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) or relevant tutoring experience


• Strong knowledge of GCSE Core Subjects, including Maths, English, and Science


• Experience working with students with SEND, SEMH, or additional learning needs is highly desirable


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


• Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and special educational needs practices


• Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting young people


• Relevant qualifications in education or a related field would be advantageous


• Enhanced DBS certificate issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to obtain one
