Salary: £26,000 - £32,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Hours: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Specialist Learning Mentor/Tutor to deliver high-quality 1:1 and small group learning sessions for young people who face barriers to accessing mainstream education. Learners may have Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, medical needs, or be awaiting placement in a specialist setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Build positive and effective relationships with students based on mutual respect, recognising each individual's unique strengths, needs, and cultural identity.


• Work collaboratively with parents/carers, educational settings, local authorities, and multi-agency professionals to support student progress.


• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging therapeutic and educational learning sessions tailored to individual needs.


• Assess and evaluate learning activities to inform future planning and ensure meaningful progress.


• Provide personalised learning opportunities that enable every student to experience success while being appropriately challenged to achieve their goals.


• Support young people in identifying aspirations and developing pathways towards positive educational, social, and life outcomes.


• Assist with transitions into educational settings by understanding barriers to learning and working alongside professionals to facilitate successful reintegration.


• Maintain accurate records of student engagement, progress, observations, and outcomes.


• Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and maintain a warm, professional, and child-centred approach at all times.


• Attend meetings, reviews, training, and professional development opportunities as required.

About You

The successful candidate will:

• Have experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH, medical needs, or other additional needs.


• Be passionate about supporting learners who require alternative approaches to education.


• Possess strong communication and relationship-building skills.


• Be able to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning activities.


• Demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.


• Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while also being confident working independently.
