About Us

Fix It is a specialist Post 16 College, that offers alternative, vocational education for learners ages 16\-24 with SEND or additional needs.

We aim to improve the life chances, career choices and opportunities of all our learners, many of whom have experienced substantial barriers to learning in the past. We support our learners by offering a more hands on, vocational focus to learning, while embedding crucial life skills and functional skills into the curriculum. As a college, we offer primarily Motor Vehicle focused qualifications, in a workshop environment that looks and feels like a 'real' garage.

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced Motor Vehicle tutor to join our team.

About the Role

As a Functional Skills Tutor, you’ll be responsible for planning and delivering high quality, engaging and inclusive training sessions to learners with complex and SEN needs. You’ll support them to achieve their EHCP outcomes and gain an accredited qualification. You will be able to differentiate your teaching approach to meet the individual needs of each learner, and embed critical life skills and problem solving skills into your sessions.

You will create a positive and supporting environment, where every learner has the opportunity to succeed.

You will also play a key role in promoting learners’ personal development, confidence, employability and independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high quality, engaging, inclusive Maths and English Functional Skills sessions and SFLE/PSHE to learners with complex needs.

  • Deliver accredited Open Awards Qualification from Entry Level up to Level 2

  • Deliver a bespoke programme that caters to learners' individual EHCP requirements, different learning styles and SEMH needs.

  • Embed literacy, numeracy, digital, employability, and independent living skills into teaching and learning activities.

  • Monitor and track all learner progress and maintain learner qualification portfolios and other qualification documentation to a high standard

  • Keep accurate and timely records for all learners using Databridge MIS software, including attendance, learner reviews, ATL scores and portfolio progress.

  • Track and assess learner progress through their qualification. Conduct regular learner progress reviews every term. Review learner ILP’s and provide SMART targets.

  • Classroom management including monitoring attendance, punctuality and learner behaviour. Deal with challenging behaviour in a professional manner, and in accordance with college policies

  • Be a good role model to learners \- maintain and reinforce effective professional standards at work. Encourage positive behaviour, self confidence and resilience during sessions.

  • Work with the learner services team to address individual learner SEN needs and other barriers to learning

  • Work with the learner services team to support learners personal development, progression and destinations \- into future employment, supported internships or further learning.

  • Attend curriculum planning activities, standardisation meetings and relevant staff training as required

  • Monitor and maintain own continuous personal development and keep up to date with industry standards and legislation

  • Work effectively as part of a dedicated team.

  • Ensure all learner documentation is securely stored, in line with the college GDPR policy

  • Carry out any other duties related to the role as and when required
Terms and conditions

Starting Salary: £33900\.00

Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Full Time (52 weeks)

Annual Leave \- 40 days PA plus Bank Holidays

About you

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant teaching qualification at Level 5 or above, or willingness to work towards this

  • Significant Previous experience of teaching or working with young people with complex needs at KS4

  • Significant experience of delivering Functional Skills (Maths and English) and PSHE lessons \- Pre entry \- Level 2

  • Level 2 Qualification (or Equivalent) in English and Maths
Desirable
  • PGCE or QTS/QTLS

  • Experience Planning and delivering Functional Skills lessons, adapted to learners with diverse or complex SEND needs.
SEN

Essential

  • Ability to establish good relationships with young people with complex needs

  • Enthusiasm and drive to work within an SEN setting

  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and use de\-escalation strategies

  • Ability to be adaptable, and to adjust teaching methods and content to suit individual learner needs
Desirable
  • Good understanding of a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

  • Familiarity of relevant legislation and guidance e.g KCSIE

  • Familiarity with the SEND code of practice
IT and Skills

Essential

  • Good computer literacy and ICT knowledge

  • Experience of relevant software including Google Workspace, MS Office

  • Able to use IT to effectively deliver sessions

  • Able to produce effective and detailed Schemes of Work and lesson plans
Desirable
  • Experience of using School/College MIS Software
