Functional Skills Tutor

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Functional Skills Tutor to support learners in developing essential skills across a range of subjects, including Health and Safety, Warehousing, and Driving Theory. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, personalised tutoring sessions to improve learners’ confidence and competence. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in individuals’ educational journeys, particularly those requiring specialised support. The tutor will work closely with learners of diverse backgrounds to foster a positive learning environment.

Duties

• Plan and deliver tailored tutoring sessions focused on functional skills such as literacy, numeracy, and communication.


• Contextualise learning


• Assess learners’ individual needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly to maximise engagement and progress.


• Support learners with special educational needs by implementing inclusive teaching strategies.


• Monitor and record learner progress, providing constructive feedback to optimise learning outcomes.


• Create a welcoming and motivating environment that encourages active participation and confidence\-building.


• Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and carers to ensure a cohesive approach to learner development.


• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and session plans in compliance with organisational policies.


• Promote positive behaviour management techniques to foster respectful and productive learning sessions.

• Proven experience in tutoring or teaching.


• Strong communication skills, capable of engaging learners across different age groups and abilities.


• Experience in developing personalised learning plans tailored to individual needs.


• Ability to create an inclusive environment that supports diverse learning styles and backgrounds.

Education:

• GCSE or equivalent (required)
