Freelance Marketing \& Social Media Manager

4 ish days spread out over a 1\-Month Project \| Vegan \& Gluten\-Free Bakery \| London / Hertfordshire

Chapter Eight is a growing vegan and gluten\-free bakehouse trading at markets, food festivals and events across London and Hertfordshire.

We're looking for an experienced freelance Marketing \& Social Media Manager to work closely with the founder for one month.

This is not simply a content\-posting role.

We are looking for someone who can understand our business commercially, identify opportunities to grow our customer base and revenue, improve how we present ourselves online and at events, and develop a clear six\-month marketing strategy that we can continue implementing after the initial month.

During the month, you will also take ownership of our day\-to\-day social media activity and attend at least one of our market/event trading days to understand the business first\-hand and capture original content.

What we need you to do

Marketing strategy

Review our existing brand, website, social media, customers, products and current marketing activity.

Understand where our revenue currently comes from and identify realistic opportunities for growth.

Review relevant competitors and successful food, bakery, vegan and free\-from brands.

Identify our highest\-potential customer groups and recommend how we should reach them.

Develop a detailed six\-month marketing plan, including clear priorities, campaigns, content themes, channels and measurable targets.

The strategy should cover not only social media but other relevant opportunities where appropriate, such as email marketing, partnerships, influencers/creators, local marketing, events, PR, customer retention and repeat purchases.

Social media management

Manage our social media channels for the duration of the one\-month project, with particular focus on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. Develop and manage a content calendar.

Create, edit, write and publish content rather than simply telling us what we should post.

Create Reels/TikToks, photographs, Stories and other appropriate content.

Write captions and calls\-to\-action that are consistent with our brand.

Test different types of content and use the results to inform the six\-month strategy.

Respond to/comment on relevant engagement where appropriate.

We want content designed to contribute to actual business growth, rather than simply chasing followers, likes or views.

In\-person market/event content

Attend at least one Chapter Eight market, festival or event in London/Hertfordshire during the project.

Spend time observing how customers interact with the stall and products.

Take high\-quality photographs and short\-form video of:

  • our products

  • stall setup and branding

  • customers/interactions where permission is appropriate

  • behind\-the\-scenes preparation

  • the founder/business story

  • market atmosphere

  • product close\-ups and serving shots
We would also like you to direct us while you're there — tell us what shots you need, how products should be displayed, what we should say on camera and what we can change to make future content better.

You should leave us with a reusable library of high\-quality photographs and video content.

Coaching

We don't want to become permanently dependent on an external social media manager.

During the month, we'd like you to teach us:

  • how to take better product photographs and videos ourselves

  • what to film while preparing and trading

  • how to structure Reels/TikToks

  • what content is worth posting

  • what isn't worth spending time on

  • how frequently to post

  • how to turn market customers into online followers and repeat customers

  • how to measure whether marketing is actually generating sales
The final six\-month plan

At the end of the project, we expect a practical six\-month marketing roadmap, not a generic marketing presentation.

It should tell us what to do month by month, including:

content themes and campaigns; recommended posting frequency; promotional calendar; event/market content strategy; influencer/creator strategy; email/customer\-retention opportunities; suggested paid advertising where commercially justified; KPIs; approximate budgets; and specific actions for the founder to take each week/month.

The plan should be realistic for a growing small business with a limited marketing budget.

Who we're looking for

We are particularly interested in someone with experience working with:

food \& drink, bakeries, hospitality, FMCG, independent consumer brands, vegan/plant\-based brands, free\-from products, market traders or early\-stage businesses.

You should have demonstrable experience in both strategy and hands\-on content creation.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who understands the difference between social\-media engagement and commercial results.

Your application MUST include evidence of previous results

Please don't just send us your follower counts.

For 2–3 previous clients/businesses, we'd like you to explain:

Before you started:
What was the business doing? What problem were they trying to solve? What were their approximate sales/revenue, customer acquisition or other relevant commercial metrics?

What you did:
What strategy and campaigns did you implement?

After:
What changed?

Where you're permitted to disclose it, we'd particularly like to see measurable results such as:

“Monthly online revenue increased from approximately £X to £Y within six months.”

or

“Campaign generated £X of attributable sales from £Y advertising spend.”

or

“Email revenue increased by X%.”

or

“Repeat customer rate increased from X% to Y%.”

We understand that client confidentiality may prevent exact revenue disclosure. In those cases, percentages, anonymised results or other verifiable commercial KPIs are welcome.

Please also include examples of content you personally created, particularly Reels/TikToks, food photography and video.
