Flow, Safety & Escalation Lead Midwife
We are seeking an experienced, confident and compassionate midwife to join our maternity leadership team as a Band 7 Flow, Safety and Escalation Lead Midwife. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new role within our maternity service, providing visible clinical and operational leadership to support safe care, effective patient flow and timely escalation across maternity services.
The post holder will maintain oversight of staffing, capacity, acuity and operational risk, working closely with labour ward coordinators, ward managers, matrons, the wider multidisciplinary team and operational colleagues. You will support safe decision\-making, workforce redeployment, escalation and communication during periods of increased pressure, helping to ensure that women, birthing people, babies and families receive safe, personalised and compassionate care.
You will play a key role in supporting patient flow into, through and out of maternity services, including responding to staffing gaps, service pressures, diverts and unit closures in line with Trust policy and agreed escalation processes. The role will also contribute to governance, audit, quality improvement, reporting and service development as the post becomes embedded within the Trust.
We are looking for a registered midwife with substantial acute maternity experience, including coordinator, shift leader or midwife in charge experience. You will be able to demonstrate sound clinical judgement, dynamic risk assessment skills, excellent communication and the ability to remain calm, professional and compassionate in complex and rapidly changing situations.
This role will suit someone who is motivated by safety, quality, teamwork and improvement, and who can provide supportive leadership while working collaboratively with colleagues across both maternity sites. You will be committed to inclusive, personalised maternity care and to living our Trust values of kindness, openness and excellence.
Our maternity service is committed to providing safe, high\-quality, personalised care for women, birthing people, babies and families. We are proud of our multidisciplinary approach and our commitment to compassionate leadership, learning, inclusion and continuous improvement. We welcome applications from colleagues who share our values and who want to make a positive difference to safety, experience and outcomes within maternity care.
