Role Summary
The Fire \& Security Design Engineer will take ownership of fire and security design packages from concept through to construction support, producing compliant, well\-coordinated designs across fire alarm and security systems.
The Fire \& Security Design Engineer will produce calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical submissions for fire alarm and security systems, working in accordance with BS 5839, relevant fire strategy and specifications, and coordinating closely with clients and consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Design \& Engineering
· Take ownership of fire and security design packages from concept through calculations, drawings, specifications, technical submission, coordination, and construction support.
· Produce fire alarm system designs in accordance with BS 5839, covering system architecture, zoning, and cause \& effect, regarding BS 9999 and relevant fire strategy and Specifications where applicable.
· Produce security system designs covering CCTV, access control, intruder detection, intercom, and ANPR where applicable, including system architecture and device schedules.
· Coordinate with clients and consultants throughout the design process to ensure designs meet project and site requirements.
Fire Alarm Design \& Calculations
· Undertake detector selection, sounder/VAD design, loop loading, PSU, battery, and voltage\-drop calculations to support compliant fire alarm designs.
· Develop fire alarm zoning, interfaces, I/O schedules, and cause \& effect matrices.
· Produce fire alarm drawings, system schematics, and specifications, identifying and managing design risk throughout.
Security Design \& Calculations
· Develop security system architecture, storage calculations, and camera coverage assessments to support CCTV design.
· Produce access\-control architecture, door schedules, and integration requirements across security systems.
· Produce security schematics and specifications to support design and technical submission.
Technical Submissions \& Construction Support
· Prepare technical submissions for fire and security systems, ensuring compliance with client and consultant requirements.
· Provide coordination and construction support throughout the project lifecycle, resolving technical queries as they arise.
· Report to the Technical Manager on design progress, technical submissions, and project coordination.

Experience
Essential
· Significant experience as a Fire \& Security Design Engineer, or equivalent, within the fire alarm and security industry.
· Proven experience taking projects from design concept through calculations, drawings, specifications, technical submission, coordination, and construction support.
· Strong working knowledge of BS 5839 and fire alarm system design, including cause \& effect, detector selection, and zoning.
Desirable
· Working knowledge of BS 9999 and relevant fire strategy interfaces.
· Experience with security system design, including CCTV, access control, and intruder detection, and FIA qualifications or equivalent design experience.
Qualifications, Knowledge \& Skills
Strong knowledge of fire alarm calculations, including loop loading, PSU, battery, and voltage\-drop calculations.
Strong knowledge of security system design, including device schedules, storage calculations, and camera coverage.
Ability to produce fire alarm and security drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage design risk.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant CAD/design software.
