Financial Controller
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a confident, hands\-on Financial Controller to take ownership of our finance function and help steer the business toward continued success. This is a key role for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys combining rigour with insight — someone who builds trust through accuracy, delivers results through strong financial control, and thrives as part of a winning team.
You’ll be the go\-to person for financial reporting, planning and compliance, working closely with the Directors and presenting directly to the Board. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, improving processes, and using numbers to tell a clear story, this role offers real influence and visibility within the organisation.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own and produce the monthly management accounts pack, including P\&L, balance sheet, cash flow and insightful supporting analysis.
- Present monthly financial results to the Board’s representative with clarity and confidence.
- Oversee the month\-end close, including journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Maintain robust financial reconciliations and high\-quality management information.
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts, supported by clear backup schedules.
- Prepare, update and present financial plans, budgets and forecasts.
- Maintain and enhance the core Excel\-based planning and forecasting model.
- Oversee cash flow management and forecasting, working closely with the Directors.
- Ensure VAT returns and other tax filings are accurate, compliant and on time.
- Ensure all ledgers are accurate, complete and up to date.
- Oversee payroll and pension administration.
- Work collaboratively with an accounts assistant, sharing knowledge and supporting development.
- Proven experience in a similar senior finance role, ideally within a dynamic, project\-based environment.
- Background in accounting practice is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong technical grounding in financial management, reporting and control.
- High proficiency with accounting software (e.g. Sage) and advanced Excel / financial modelling skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Sharp analytical ability with exceptional attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of UK statutory finance and tax regulations.
- ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualification (essential).
- Strong communication skills and a team\-first mindset — you win by helping others win too.
