Are you an experienced Financial Accountant looking for an opportunity to take ownership of financial accounting, compliance and financial controls within a national charity?

We're looking for a Financial Accounting Manager to lead our financial accounting function, overseeing statutory reporting, balance sheet integrity, VAT compliance, treasury activities and the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams. This is a pivotal role combining technical accounting expertise with leadership and continuous improvement, helping to ensure robust financial governance while supporting informed decision\-making across the organisation.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll provide leadership and oversight across financial accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with Finance colleagues, operational teams and external stakeholders, you'll lead month\-end and year\-end processes, maintain ownership of key balance sheet controls, oversee VAT compliance and support the continued development of our financial systems, processes and people.

What you'll be doing

As Financial Accounting Manager, you'll lead and support Nacro's financial accounting function by:

  • Leading month\-end and year\-end accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Maintaining ownership of balance sheet reconciliations and key financial control accounts.

  • Leading the preparation and review of VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements.

  • Supporting statutory accounts production and acting as a key contact during internal and external audits.

  • Providing technical accounting guidance and advice across the Finance team.

  • Overseeing the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring strong financial controls and service standards.

  • Supporting treasury management, cash flow monitoring and financial planning activities.

  • Maintaining the integrity of financial systems, processes and financial data.

  • Identifying and implementing improvements to financial controls, processes and reporting.

  • Supporting finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Leading, coaching and developing direct reports, fostering a collaborative and high\-performing culture.

  • Building strong relationships with budget holders, operational managers and senior stakeholders across the organisation.
You'll be someone who
  • Is ACA or ACCA, fully qualified.

  • Has significant experience in a technical financial accounting role within a large and complex organisation.

  • Has strong experience of month\-end and year\-end processes, statutory reporting and financial controls.

  • Has extensive experience managing balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts.

  • Has significant experience preparing, reviewing and submitting VAT returns.

  • Has strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, VAT regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Has experience managing or overseeing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.

  • Has experience leading, coaching and developing finance colleagues.

  • Is highly organised and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

  • Has excellent analytical, problem\-solving and communication skills.

  • Demonstrates sound judgement, accountability and a commitment to strong governance and financial control.
Experience within the charity sector, knowledge of Charity SORP and experience of NetSuite or other large ERP finance systems would be advantageous.
