Role Purpose
To support the Finance Lead in maintaining accurate, timely and compliant financial records across the Sanper Group. The role holder will be responsible for the day\-to\-day processing, reconciliation and administration of finance activities, ensuring transactions are correctly recorded, financial records remain up to date and information is prepared accurately for review by the Finance Lead.
This is a highly operational role that requires strong attention to detail, effective execution of compliance obligations and the ability to work closely with operational teams to ensure robust accounting and control processes across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control \& Accounting
· Maintain accurate accounting records across all Group entities
· Ensure all transactions are posted correctly and on a timely basis
· Process journals, accruals and prepayments
· Assist with month\-end and year\-end accounting processes
· Prepare schedules and supporting information for management accounts
· Ensure revenue, cost and balance sheet postings are accurate and complete
· Maintain and continuously improve financial controls and accounting processes
Balance Sheet Reconciliations
· Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for review
· Investigate and resolve reconciling items
· Ensure all reconciliations are audit\-ready and supported by appropriate evidence. Areas include Bank accounts, Credit cards, Loans and finance facilities, VAT, PAYE/NIC, CIS, Intercompany balances, Accruals and prepayments, Fixed assets, Trade debtors and creditors
VAT Compliance
· Ensure VAT records are complete and up to date
· Prepare and submit VAT returns for all Group entities
· Reconcile VAT control accounts monthly
· Deal with HMRC queries where required
· Ensure Making Tax Digital compliance is maintained
CIS Administration
· Maintain subcontractor records
· Verify subcontractors
· Ensure subcontractor deductions are correctly calculated and recorded
· Prepare CIS return information for review and submission
· Reconcile CIS deductions and liabilities
· Ensure CIS records remain accurate and compliant
· Deal with HMRC CIS queries
Payroll
· Process payroll
· Prepare payroll schedules and reconciliations
· Reconcile PAYE, NI and pension balances
· Liaise with payroll providers where applicable
· Ensure payroll records remain accurate and compliant
· Monitor payroll costs and employee\-related liabilities
Purchase Ledger
· Ensure invoices are coded correctly
· Perform supplier statement reconciliations
· Investigate and communicate supplier queries
· Weekly Payment run preparation
Sales Ledger \& Credit Control
· Maintain customer account reconciliations
· Investigate and communicate customer queries
· Support credit control activities
Cash \& Working Capital Management
· Prepare and process weekly supplier and subcontractor payment runs
· Monitor upcoming creditor obligations and accurate forecasting
· Monitor daily cash positions
· Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts
· Maintain lending and invoice finance schedules
· Prepare information requested by lenders, auditors and accountants
· Prepare periodic reporting requirements
Systems \& Process Improvement
· Ensure consistent use of QuickBooks and associated systems
· Assist in maintaining standardised accounting procedures across the Group
· Identify process improvement opportunities
· Support automation and workflow initiatives
· Act as a key user of QuickBooks Online Advanced and related finance systems
· Improve reporting accuracy and efficiency
· Support automation initiatives and workflow improvements
Year\-End Support
· Assist with year\-end audits and statutory accounts preparation
· Provide reconciliations and supporting schedules to external accountants
· Resolve audit queries efficiently
Required Skills
Essential:
· AAT Qualified, Part\-qualified ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience
· Minimum 3\-5 years' finance experience
· Strong balance sheet reconciliation experience
· Experience of VAT, CIS and payroll administration
· Strong Excel skills
· Excellent attention to detail
· Ability to work independently and take ownership of processes
· Strong organisational and communication skills
Preferred:
· Construction or contracting sector experience
· Experience of QuickBooks Online Advanced
